If you want, skip to 4:19 for the big moment.
EDIT: Ugh, won't allow playing as an embedded video

The Saudi, Hamedi, lost to the Iranian, Sajad, after dominating the match, because he knocked him out. No, not Sajad knocking him out. The Hamedi knocked out Sajad. He got disqualified because he "kicked too hard"! Are you fucking kidding me?! That shouldn't even be a thing, but that aside... Sajad literally leaned into the kick, which looked pretty tame and controlled and actually aimed at the chest.
And while I believe he was at least briefly knocked out, that could've easily been an intentional flop as a gambit since he was losing badly anyway.
What an absolute joke of a competition...

Oh. It's the NBC Olympics youtube channel, probably not available outside of the U.S....

It's the 75 kg men's gold medal match in Kumite between Tareg Hamedi of Saudi Arabia vs. Sajad Ganjzadeh of Iran, if you want to find it on whatever service has Olympics coverage in your country... Otherwise, I described what happened.

They can launch an appeal to the IOC, so it may be overturned, especially if the athlete has a history of flopping.

It does not appear to be on eurosport yet.

From what I could find, that looked like karate to me. My only experience being in judo, not karate.

He just gets hit on the chest and falls over. His eyes are still open afterwards. Where does the knocked unconscious come in?

I mean, are 1-hi knock outs not a thing?

Like in Judo, I would assume it does not matter how many points you accumulated and you are the minimum number of points (1 yuko in judo) away from victory, if your opponent manages to throw you on your back in one motion, you still lost.

Well, that's the really kicker here (heh).
The guy that got knocked out won the match.
I agree, you could be up 10-1 or whatever and then get KO'd, you should lose.
But he was losing on points AND got knocked the fuck out and still wins by DQ b/c apparently it's his opponent's fault that he ducked into a chest kick.

Hamedi's final kick sent Ganjzadeh to the tatami and the Saudi into celebration mode before the mood in the Nippon Budokan arena turned. Medics rushed to Ganjzadeh's side, placing an oxygen mask on the Iranian and removing him on a stretcher.
After a few minutes of discussion among the officials on the sidelines, the referee called the match for Ganjzadeh by disqualifying Hamedi for an unchecked attack, which is not allowed under karate's Olympic rules.
Ganjzadeh returned later for the medal ceremony, walking normally. Both he and Hamedi were expressionless as they stepped up to the podium and collected their medals.

He got hit in the neck apparently, not the head or chest. And yeah, he didn't seem that bad and was back for the podium seemingly fine. But they put him on a stretcher and stuff, probably overreacted. Which is fine for medical care, not fine for judging of a gold medal match...
