its not that I'm mad at them for that, its that some of them will use it as an excuse to blame everything bad that happens to them, or to treat people who aren't like them poorly that annoys me.

It probably has to do with classifying beliefs they disagree with as the work of a evil spirit. It's easier for people to accept "good things happen by the grace of God" than "you're sexuality or lifestyle is the result of evil spirits corrupting you!"

because most Christians will tell you that God causes hurricanes and plagues and whatnot. even the Bible is all like "yeah, God likes to mass murder people"

"The devil" as it's known now was the result of a series of mistranslations of the original bible. It was never intended to be some dude in hell that punishes sinners, you can thank the integration of pagan religions by subsequent authors for that one

So, if it is an honest question TC, then I would say a lot of it has to do with the fact many Christians will use it as an excuse from owning up to what they themselves did. The view tends to be basically: if you're passing off bad deeds/things to an invisible guy you're an unaccountable asshole. If you're passing off good deeds/things to God, then you're just a silly person seeking comfort in the universe.

Which is almost completely in line with what the book says will happen. By convincing the world he doesn't exist, he can step in and replace God, or so he thinks (and in the meantime the world becomes his worthless version of eden). He will undoubtedly get many to actively side with him. He will present to them the object of worship people seem to think they want and tell them all the sweet sounding solutions.

And with the massive rejection of God and the Torah spelled out in the scrolls and Old Testament, it all just kinda adds up.

I think the idea is the devil wants your soul and the only way he gets it is for you to go to hell. So he manipulates people into doing bad stuff

Your question's kinda vague. "People" have a lot of reasons. One common reason is that "fire n' brimstone" Hell isn't even actually in the Bible. It's a nonsense scare tactic made of lies.

I think it's less that people believe the devil exists and more that a lot of people use the devil as an excuse for the shitty things they do.

Free will is supposed to be a major element of most Christian theology, but that often goes out the window when you actually do something shitty
