There have been attempts but sports need two things to take off, especially in the USA, and that's (1) consistent corporate sponsorship and (2) a gambling market.

It is interesting because it's very popular at the high school and college levels so it's not like there isn't a pool of high level athletes.

Volleyball is considered a "girl sport" and female athletics are never as popular.

Yes I know men play at an insane level of athleticism but that's the stigma that develops when volleyball and football have fall seasons in high school so they naturally become gendered sports from a young age.

True, I never even knew there was men's volleyball in schools until I worked with a kid that played it in high school.

Same. I grew up on the coast so volleyball was something every knew how to play and did as a game but volleyball season was in the fall so only the girls played it competively.
