Still more college than the avg person. Plus I make a lot without it and would never gamble spending money on something that isnt a guarantee.
That's awesome. But guess what? It's not "going to college." You can't say that universities are a scam if you never went to one.

You're not paying for a job though. When I went to university it wasn't to get a job, it was to study a subject that I had chosen.

This. The idea of only going to college to get a job is so depressing, though I can see how the cost can be prohibitive to the point of needing a higher paying job after to pay it back

Even if I never get a job in physics, I'll never regret studying it. It's been one of the best experiences of my life

This is kind of dumb "logic"

Even if the degree isn't listed on the job posting, the person reading the resumes will likely go with a degree carrying person vs a non degree carrying person given similar levels of experience/skill
Apparently tc doesn't have a degree in common sense.

you dont find people with the job title biologer (biologist, I know) or chemicaler (chemist, I know) in many companies but they still hire people with biology or chemistry degrees for jobs that relate to or require said degrees

What does it prepare you for in the business world?

Critical thinking, examining issues from all possible angles, as well as a certain level of intellect.

Ability to convince/argue and speak publicly are valued in some roles as well.

Of course, there are other ways to demonstrate all of these things. But, as I've said, employers here don't seem to have any objection to philosophy degrees.

It isn't. Sorry to burst your bubble, but it isn't. I went to community college before transferring. I have an AA that I got on the way to my BA, so I know that experience as well. The environment, the education, and the degree is not the same as what you get at a university. This isn't "classist bullshit," it's just a fact. If you've only been to a community college you do not get to call BAs/the college experience a scam.

There is a disconnect between what various parties want colleges and universities to be.

Administrators want them to be a well-run business that makes them look good to the board of trustees and get them promoted.
Faculty want them to be institutions that advance knowledge through research and scholarship, while also training future researchers and scholars.
Student Affairs personnel want them to be vehicles for social and economic equity among populations, allowing for even the poorest and most-marginalized a shot at rising the economic latter.
Employers want them to be job training centers that pop out employees ready to the specific work they need done and without hand-holding.
Politicians want them to make them look good, therefore matching whatever the current hot topic of the week is at the national scale and changing them to meet their political party's needs.
Donors want them to simply be trophies and vehicles for their own desires, on which to put their names on buildings and benches and give them a fun place to visit and show their friends.
And students want them to serve as the gatekeepers for jobs, basically getting them the job of their dreams no matter how it's done.

When so many different groups have a different idea of what a college or university is supposed to be, then the focus is lost and they try to be everything to all people and fail.

Answer the question. You cant say college is a scam if you didnt even get the full college experience or education. Outside of a few special fields an AA is 100% meaningless

So can I use your reasoning and say you never went to college unless you have a Ph.D? Or are you the only one allowed to move the goalposts?
When people talk about college being a scam theyre clearly talking about a bachelor. Obviously they arent talking about grad school, as people generally only go to grad school for a specific purpose/career path. Again, do you think an AA and a BA represent the same quantity and quality of education?

Ya know maybe its not the case but people can be judgmental but I could see at least see some people see the philosophy degree and immediately think "this guy probably thinks hes wiser than everyone else. Not dealing with that"

Like personally id probably have a bias against people with psychology degrees cause most ive met rub the wrong way.
