I just saw the replay of what led to the penalty kick. I didn't realize dropkicking someone from behind gives you a penalty kick because that's what happened. It was a crap call. Team USA got screwed...

We got screwed against the US in 2012. Guess we finally even.

I understand that part. My question is why was it a penalty on Team USA but not a foul on Canada if the Canadian player came from behind, tripping up the American player?

The Canadian player stepped in front of the American player and was trying to control the ball. The American player didnt expect that, and tried to clear the ball, taking out the legs of the Canadian player. You cant go through a player to get the ball. There is a video of the foul at this link:

It all happened really fast, before replay it would probably have been a no call. Not a terrible call I would say though, just unlucky on the Americans part.

Honestly the American defender should not have been going after that ball so nonchalant, if she ran hard to get it cleared, that would not have happened.

Ok, this explanation makes sense. And the replay clearly shows the American player unfortunately kicking the Canadian player's leg. Thank you.

Anyway, I don't like Rapinoe either, but come on, if you're American, you should root for Team USA.
