Alright so shes renting a house in her 60s because she's been terrible with money all her life, and my dad has pretty much just let her do whatever she wanted, so basically there was zero thought of finances and they ended up in their 60s broke as shit. My mom recently requested to the landlord to get new blinds for the house because the old blinds are old and dont work. The landlord initially agreed and had multiple quotes, but he didnt like any of the quotes and said he doesnt want to pay the price since everything related to homes has obviously gone up in price lately.

A few months go by and my mom decides shes just going to replace the blinds herself, saying I have to live here, I want nice blinds that work, I dont care if its not my house. That's right, my mom, fucking up financially all her life, renting a house in her 60s from someone a generation younger than she is, is now going to pay for the replacement of blinds in a house she doesnt even own, because she "just has to have nice blinds in a house she lives in."

I don't really know what the point of this topic is, other than to say Im just so fucking done with financially stupid people. I'm a pretty compassionate person, but honestly anytime I see a poor person I just know theyre probably just like my mom, most likely poor due to their own dumbass decisions in life.

And these Baby Boomers man, they've gotten used to a certain lifestyle. They just HAVE to get what they want no matter what, and it's why shes at her current age and owns nothing. My dad never really took control of the finances and let her walk all over him and control everything.

I've felt with this a lot too.

If anyone wanted to borrow money, they'd have to agree to let me go over their budget with them.

That's turns off about 90% pf those that supposedly need the help...

I always cut them slack, its incredibly hard to become desensitized the way people have become towards things having a kind of identity made normal and internalized with supports established in the internet domain means this world is completely inaccessible to them. Its easy to say just learn but no generation has ever really been forced to learn other than in cases of imperialism.. at least not learn these extreme forms of thinking

You have a group of people who really believed in the world, who saw what it means to be outside and be with others.. and now were trying to box them in at age 60 right next to shit we even recognize as a big trash heap and then when we are social its in these meta and meme ways

Most of them dont deserve to be cut any slack. They dont put any effort at all into figuring anything out and expect everything to be done for them. Even when something is as simple as just reading a couple of words in order to understand something theyll complain that they cant be bothered to do it.

How is that punching down the underdogs? They ask for help, you try to help them and then they ignore everything that youre saying and tell you to just do it for them. They dont want a helping hand, they just want to complain that everything is too difficult for them and not make any effort to improve

Heres the truth no one seems to tell young people. It does not matter how you handle your money in life. At the end of the cycle you will either end up in a nursing home paid for by the government, dead from an illness, or being taken care of by a family member because at a certain age you just cant take care of yourself safely anymore.

Well yeah but until that day comes I'd like to be able to enjoy myself, which comes from financial freedom (going on nice trips, having nice things). I know money isn't everything, but you might as well try to live as well as possible in the meantime

Just tell her to keep the old ones in a closet and take the new ones with her whenever she moves out

Yeah, I know a lady how is 42. She is renting a house. When I bring up the option her taking out a loan and buying a house, she tells me she doesn't have a bank account. She should be saving money, but she isn't. I know a lot of people have to be like this.
