I'd like to think it is real, but we may not find out in our lifetime. Alien contact will probably happen first before we discover the multiverse. Because the universe is expanding, the edge of what we can observe is actually traveling away from us faster than light (and will eventually disappear from our perspective). It's not that some boundary is expanding outwards, just that the space between everything in the universe is increasing Think of a grid of equally spaced lines that goes on infinitely, and over time those lines all get further apart from each other. And theoretically if it is infinite than every conceivable reality has occurred or even is occurring at this moment. As hard as it is to wrap my head around the massiveness of that I can't exacly say it makes no sense and can't be true. So sure, maybe. As for completly different planes of existence, probably not.
