Once you've signed your operator accepting, do you feel it's okay to back out?

What are your thoughts

Honestly...you shouldn't care.

Companies have the freedom to drop you at any point during the hiring process or during your employment for any reason whatsoever.

This so hard

Loyalty has never been, and never will be, a 2 way street. Do whats in your best interest at any given time, since thats exactly what any employer will do.

In my profession (teaching) I could lose my license if the employer chose to pursue with the Commission on Teacher Credentialing. But in most cases its totally fine (and common).

At will goes both ways and all workers need to take that to heart. Do what's best for you.

Yes. Treat yourself as a valuable commodity. If you see a better job, go for it. Don't stick to a company just because of what's already happened.

Maybe frowned upon but better than starting and them spending a bunch of money to onboard you only to quit then.

Though if you're in a small industry I would watch out because people tend to talk and if you go for another job they might be wary.

That said, I've now signed on with the same temp agency twice only to quit before the job started. In a row. Same guy and everything, I felt kinda bad lol

There are a few reasons for firing that are illegal. You cannot be fired as racial discrimination. You cannot be fired because somebody has slandered your reputation falsely. In the USA, you cannot be fired because of your religion

I think the point is, the default is that any given reason is valid unless explicitly declared otherwise, rather than there only being specific reasons they can do it.

Absolutely.

You got the other job. I do recommend sending at least two weeks notice as a courtesy. It's a good idea to save some references from the job you are leaving, if you have people you know you can use for future jobs. You can give a week of vacation for yourself too by telling your future employer that you will start in 3-4 weeks

You don't owe them anything. If you got a better offer take it.
