Nice tc as long as it makes you happy. Ive done the same twice over the years. Parts do become outdated after a year but they certainly dont become obsolete. My pc is old but still plays current gen games OK.

PCs dont really age that much nowadays. well. depending on use.

if its video games, most triple a games still recommend a card that was released 5 years ago. and if you get the new ones, all you get is nicer shadows and shit. oh boy.

the best upgrade ive done for my PC in the last 5 years was get a 1440p, 144hz monitor.

It won't be obsolete for 5 years at least. After that it'll still run most stuff, maybe just not on ultra settings.

WashYourHands posted...
Why?

Video editing. I learned how to work with Adobe Premiere Pro at my previous job and I wanna do more with that. Also, gaming at ultra high settings, obvy.

MSI GeForce RTX 3060 VENTUS 2X 12GB OC
Found one for the surprisingly low cost of 549 (about $650). Reviews I found were positive, both about the vendor and the product.

I am pretty excited about it Some of the parts I've ordered are deliberately overkill right now, so that it won't be obsolete that soon.

Yeah, ventilation can be a real issue. Here's hoping the summer won't get desert-like and that the fan type I selected will suffice.

I did. The term 'Build' isn't exclusive to GPU, is it?

Yeah, from what I hear, they've gotten pretty pricey, especially since crypto mining became the latest craze.

It's not that bad, is it? 12GB should be plenty for Adobe Premiere and current-gen games. And it's overclocked.

its not bad. its just that, traditionally, the xx60 series are supposed to be the "budget, but good" card. and it cost you what, like 800 dollars?

i got a 1060 back in 2017 for like 300, and the high end 1080 cards were 800.

$650 actually. Ah well, we'll see how long it lasts. Should be good for at least a couple more years And if it does phase out sooner than expected, I can always upgrade to something else.

Fair enough. I heard it's great for gaming, though I also wanted to make sure my rig can easily handle Adobe Premiere and any updates that might come in the video editing world in the next few years. Also, I don't really care about fancy colored lighting.

DrPrimemaster posted...
Why so low?

It can do what I want it to do, now and for the next five years at least. I felt getting more would be overkill.

The reality is 4K is still a bit off. These new graphic cards are beginning to make 1440p the norm rather than 1080p.

Maybe the next generation of GPUs make 4K playable.

Most current games play fine in ultra 4K. Poorly optimized ones like everything Ubisoft makes don't. Unless you don't mind frame rates dipping down to the 30s.

Unless you actually own a 30 series video card (or AMD equivalent), and have firsthand experience with the card not running the games you like to play in 4K, you shouldn't be spreading ignorant FUD like this.
