and did a post credits scene revealing it was actually a sequel to unbreakable this whole time, 15 years after unbreakable came out.

Wonder if the success of Marvel had anything to do with it, especially the surprise reveal

Unbreakable was was lambasted because people wanted a Sixth Sense version 2.0 and instead got a Super Hero movie (when super hero movies weren't that popular), so yeah in a sense the MCU movies doing very well definately invigorated M.Night to continue his trilogy. And I'm in the minority, but I actually liked the third film a lot, but how they killed off David Dunn in a puddle of water was very distatesful in my opinion.

Unbreakable was always supposed to be part of a trilogy, too. I think Shyamalan's performance had as much to do with it getting delayed as anything else, though.
