and it's like I completely gave up at the end, oops.

Basically, part of the issue is that I wanted the finale of the arc to be a "3-parter" but it's becoming clear that I either have to find things to eliminate or make it into more parts. I refuse to do the latter, though, because I find overly-long finales can just drag things on way too much and aren't as effective as short and sweet finishes.

I'm just going to finish it and move on. I can always rewrite it when the entire story is finished, but trying to make it better now will only demotivate me in the short-run. As long as I get the general idea of what the conflict is and how it resolves, then I should be able to fix it later I hope.

I once heard that re-writing some segments after having already written them, making an active effort to cut the fluff would probably make for a more engaging finale

I mean, finales are hard, I will admit! Finales are what I think about the most when I'm writing a story, but when you actually get there, you want to make sure it's not dragging on, but also does its job of giving the audience (even if the audience is just yourself) a sense of closure.

It's just a constant question of "Did I do enough? Did I do too much?"

Probably true. Of course, the thing with fluff is you have to be careful with what you cut out. Sometimes, too many things get cut, and people complain of rushed endings.

Fluff has always been a weakness of mine in particular, as I'll add a lot of things and feel they are important to the overall message of the story.
