Elizabeth Swann now being in love with Jack Sparrow?

Jesus christ it's a 2.5 hour Disney epic adventure about zombie pirates and the kraken at sea

It doesn't need a bloody love triangle, let alone a dumb one.

Heres how I rank the Pirates movies, its pretty controversial but its my order

1 At Worlds End
2 Dead Mans Chest
3 Curse of the Black Pearl
4 Dead Men Tell No Tales
5 On Stranger Tides

I will say the first trilogy is head and shoulders above the later two movies. Stranger Tides is (IMO) by far the worst of the series. Dead Men Tell No Tales was a slight improvement on Stranger Tides, but still nowhere as good as the original trilogy.

My ranking is actually controversial since 1 isn't my favorite. 3 just had a lot going on and it was fun. Oh and it had more Barbossa. Agreed that the two after the first trilogy were a big downgrade and also that Dead Men wasn't as bad as Stranger Tides.

I think the headcanon is that she was not so much "in love with Jack" as she was in love with the idea of him and his lifestyle, of being a pirate free to wander the 7 seas, live a life of adventure, etc etc.

Which... is still pretty bad (as it implies life with Will was stifling when she chose him...) but it's better than the alternative.

Pirates 2 is kinda like Matrix 2 in a way; it was an unneeded, unnecessary sequel to a complete movie that didn't need a sequel, but it was still kinda good, and introduced a cool new concept and/or bad guy (ie the kraken in pirates, and the albino phase shifters in matrix)

And honestly davy jones is some excellent character design right there.

But yeah it was only Pirates mania that kept me interested in those 2 sequels and a fan of the trilogy as a whole. It's a good thing they never made more.

Movie 3 was ok.
It had some really major low points but it did have some of the better high points of the franchise
The whole 'lets take turns making alliances' was really worn out after the second movie

Even Curse of the Black Pearl isn't great. It just goes: great beginning > bunch of bullshit > cool ghost pirate scene > more bullshit > fun times with Liz and Jack on the island > yet more bullshit > great ending

It's decent, but it really needed another action set piece like the ridiculous ones in Dead Man's Chest.

I like that part where Jack "Heroically " returns, steps on Swann's feet and shoots the barrels.... That Swann was about to shoot anyway

Then the movie acts like Jack saved the day.

Because he made a heroic sacrifice and they're all sad now (even though they've left him to die several times in this and the previous movie with no qualms)

But also it's so the 3rd movie can happen. And for the ridiculous barbossa reveal (if Geoffrey Rush wasn't so amazing I'd probably be upset)

The silly action scenes are fun, but Barbossa is my favorite (followed by Tia Dalma, who is also making this scene). Also the sloppy apple bite is fucking great.

The first three movies were gold. And the three main characters were awesome. The three main villains were also pretty damn good, including Cutler Beckett

Glad to see At Worlds End getting some love here. Its really not a bad movie. I think it just came out at the wrong time. I noticed in the late 2000s that people (mainly internet-dwelling nerds) seemed to be getting extra angsty and nitpicky over nerdy things.

My ranking would be 1>3>2>5>4

3 was just a bad film.

It felt like they sat down and brainstormed ideas for a movie, then went "Right ok, let's do all of that stuff we said. Everything." and that was how they made the script.

And Swann/Bloom's romance just got fucking absurd.

The trilogy's detail and foreshadowing was impressive. I wish part 4 and 5 were as consistent.

I don't remember any of the details, but I remember not liking the third one. Killing the kraken off-screen just reeked of laziness because they made it too OP in the second one and then the whole movie is devoted to giving Calypso her magic back, but she does fuck-all to affect the story.

It's also not something you get if you watch it now, but they marketed the fuck out of the Pirate Court. Full-fledged posters for every single captain only for them to be in the movie for like ten minutes.
