its like a chip you just load the amiibo data onto to use for certain games. I want the OoT link outfit in BotW but that amiibo is impossible to find for a reasonable price

Amiibo tags, you mean?

If you're wondering whether or not they function, yes, they do. Oftentimes they are better than regular amiibos (for example, you can get a fully maxed Wolf Link amiibo this way).

I used to my Android phone to spoof amiibo directly for Animal Crossing (didn't have print the .bin onto a separate tag, connected via bluetooth), but one of the Switch updates made the method I used obsolete. Technically you can still do it, but you have to root your phone.
