Current Events > The Playstation found footage 'Petscop' starts great but gets boring IMO.

The beginning loads you with mysteries and eery things but after a while it kinda becomes episodic in what is introduced and explored and I have no idea what's going on with the demo mechanic. I'm on episode 14. Anyone else here seen it? Is it worth finishing?

Yeah at first it was decent. And I get the message the creator was going for but please stay away from real life events like that.

WHats it about
A guy plays a PS1 game that at first appears to be an unfinished game by some company but is actually an angst project by some dude from really deep in the narrator's past. There's some really creepy imagery and ideas that conform pretty well to the PS1 style. The actual plot details of what happened in the past are very difficult to parse on a casual viewing, and appear to reference some IRL child abuse cases.

It starts with the player talking through everything he sees, but you start to notice how he might be unreliable as a narrator, and after a while it's mostly gameplay without commentary so you have to pay close attention to get anything out of it.

There are two details that really stick out to me in the project. The first is a weird shape thing the player can ask questions to, it turns out that it can change color denoting a change in speaker, and say MGS2 shit like "TURN OFF PLAYSTATION" and claims that an NPC in the game comes and "hurts" it when the PS1 is on

The second is when the player toys with a room-generating puzzle that always places two objects on a table. After inputting a certain combination he walks in and stares at the table silently for a good 25 seconds, while the thing on the table has been censored with a large black bar, and it's implied to be a personal identifier to the narrator

Yeah I mostly just watched it because of the PS1 aesthetic, but it pretty much just became boring, cryptic nonsense.

It does the SNES Godzilla thing where it starts really strong and then writes the person playing the game into the story and it's suddenly a lot less interesting. I actually am kinder to Godzilla because it's more upfront about it, didn't have an erratic update schedule, and didn't write a real life tragedy into the story.
