I just hit level 50 as a warrior and am trying to pick a dps spec. Overall, Warrior feels pretty slow paced for me. I come from Wow and mained Enh, Monk, and Mage. I generally like to pressing a lot buttons and enjoy flashy gameplay. WW was probably my fav spec in wow because it flowed well and I enjoyed having a dynamic rotation. Additionally, being mobile is pretty important as well. I loved WW and Mage because their rolls/blinks were super satisfying

I was pretty competitive in Wow, and was a top 50 mage on my realm and was downing +18s in 9.0. In general, I like to be the highest dps. I didnt enjoy mage as much as Monk or Shaman but felt I had to play it as it was more competitive. That said, fire burst rotations were very satisfying

Overall I want:

Mobility
Flashy abilities
High personal dps. This isnt critical, though, if a class makes up for it in someway. I just really dont want to be playing a traditionally underpowered job. I want to feel competitive and standout in the raid. Not saying I will, just want the opportunity to.
Rotation that is more redactional than spinning plates.

I dont mind if it is melee or ranged. Actually love battlemages, but they are rarely ever competitive from my mmo experience.

Assuming you're talking FFXIV, pick Bard. They have almost no abilities with cast times and at higher levels you're expected to constantly weave abilities in during the GCD so you've got a lot going on. Plus you've got multiple support abilities so parties will always like having you along.

They're not top tier right now in terms of, like, savage raids, but you're a long ways off from worrying about that.

Yeah Bard seems like a solid proposition. What do you think of Red Mage and Samurai for me? Even Gunbreaker? Those classes start high level, so are enticing.

Gun breaker is like half tank, half dps. They're pretty fun, but I find their rotation pretty flowchart so if you're looking for variety I don't know that you would enjoy them.

Samurai is one of the single highest DPS classes so if you're looking for raw damage they are good pick, and they have that cool Factor going for them. I haven't really leveled one though so I can't talk variety.

Red mage has lots of cast bars but when they get into a groove you're just throwing out spells left and right while diving towards the enemy and flipping back and you feel like a badass.

Red Mage seems to the most fun to me, but I am worried about skill expression and their dps and value in Savage content.

It's not a pet class, it's an ability you get at higher level that dps' with you, pops off, and disappears

Well they have incredible utility as the only non-healing class that can rez, so you'll find use in harder content pretty much no matter what.

Do you think their rotation gets boring after awhile?

Ninja is my main. I started with Archer/Bard, and I love Bard, but it has a LOT of cooldowns you need to pay attention to. It's different than other DPS as well since there's no basic combo actions with the job

No, in part because like Bard they're somewhat dependent on proccing abilities through crits. Then, once you get one, their main damage loop begins and you're just throwing out spell after spell, but you still have utility abilities to consider when you're outside of that loop to support the party.

If you're willing to sacrifice DPS for utility, you may also like dancer. Like bard, they specialize in supporting the right party member at the right time while also doing damage, but they give up more individual DPS in exchange for party wide buffs.

For me it's all those cooldowns which make the class so much fun. You basically feel unbound by the gcd and since each song has its own unique gimmick, you're playing the class slightly differently every 30 seconds or so which really keeps things varied.

Summoner also has a a rez. Red mage is just the best at it because they can instant cast a rez every other cast.

Dont sweat it. Partly because every class is more than viable for every level of content and also because Red Mage is probably the best its ever been right now and a very solid choice.

Also rereading the opining post with the competitive approach youre taking I wanna point out that theres not really any new high end content until the next expansion.

So I would absolutely focus more on the gameplay of a job rather than the numbers because its all getting shaken up once we go up to level 90.

NIN for melee, SMN/BLM for caster, MCH for ranged phys, based on what you said you liked in the OP

never played wow but from what i understand, its class balance issues are much more severe than ffxiv. all jobs are viable for savage and ultimate
