Context is I'm still salty that my last job informed me last minute that they won't let me off work for my honeymoon. I asked for it months in advance, only asked for a week, and specifically requested time without pay, but was told I HAVE to have enough vacation time or they'll make no exception.

It's probably a logistical nightmare to make the system work like that, I dunno though

You get anything in writing confirming the vacation approval?

Time without pay seems like a bit of a courtesy tbqh

Like they do that to be nice instead of firing you for not coming in

I was told it was approved if I had a certain amount of PTO. I was an hour or two short, because I ended up having to use a bunch to take care of some personal emergencies, particularly because they wouldn't let me use sick time for taking care of a roommate after he got hit by a car.

Would love to, but I have family here, and can't really afford to, even if they'd accept me :/

I never willingly used any PTO between the agreement and the denial.

I'll never understand why some companies split "sick" time with "vacation" time

Company A offers one week of sick leave and two weeks of vacation leave per year
Company B offers three weeks of leave, regardless of reason

I NEVER hear gripes about company B's offering. Baffles me as to how/why some companies still operate this way. Just makes things tougher for everyone.

Depends but in your circumstances it sounds like bullshit and your company is horrible.

This totally, it should all be in one pool and use as you please. It incentivises people to call out sick just to use the time they earned.
