cut hours isn't good. remember one day i had the chance to get an ID after finding all of my documents for them to close shop on the day of my appointment. had to wait another month because of wildfire smoke.

requirements aren't bad:

a couple documents of the address residing
social security card number
birth certificate.
Sounds like requiring at least renting property to vote

Just like most if american politics, this is just a lot ado about nothings. The vast majority of voters have a photo ID and voter fraud is such a small problem that it's silly to even call it a problem.

It's just meaningless shit for idiots to argue about

~3% of voting-age americans don't have an ID according to several studies. A reminder that of our past six presidential elections one was decided by a difference of a few hundred votes and another by some tens of thousands. It's an incredibly important issue even without getting into the principle of it.

Ah! Imagine if a few hundred stolen votes changed an election

Nothing wrong with requiring ID. If you also ensure that every single citizen gets a valid ID for free.

This is the way

What's wrong with preventing voter fraud?
What voter fraud? The ones with photo ID that are committing voter fraud are Republicans.

do you know that some laws affect certain demographics more than others? pretty crazy concept
Voter ID laws no more unfavorably impact a particular race than traffic laws impact someone who drives a hellcat.

So all demographics are represented equally amongst the population that does not have ID?

In the context of voter ID laws? Indubitably.

Requiring a Photo ID at polling booths, just like where you need to purchase cigarettes and alcohol and drive a car.
America is doomed.

Those other things you mentioned arent rights. Voting is. Major difference there.

Fortunately, Republican voters, the majority of attempts at voter fraud, are too stupid to get away with it that many times.

Idk, man. Having a photo ID is so critical for so much in life, I can't imagine not having one.

Are there seriously adults without a photo ID?
If you're a senior citizen who was born in another state then getting a photo ID can be a very lengthy and time consuming process that's dependent upon the kindness of others.

It varies from state to state, but you'll probably need.. (1) a birth certificate with the state seal on it, meaning your copy of your birth certificate may not do. This usually means going back to the county where you were born. So if you're an elderly lady living in South Carolina who was born in Nevada then you've got a problem, especially since you can't drive. In some cases you can do this online, but it costs money and it requires knowledge of the internet. Again, something that may be a barrier to elderly poor people. (2) You'll also need proof of residency. This can be tricky if you're an elderly spouse because typically you'll need like two bills in your name or something. But if everything is in your husbands or adult child's name then you may have a problem. (3) You're going to need someone to cart your ass around to the DMV. This means your ride is going to miss a day of work. That's a problem if you're in a low income area with friends who are all struggling to get by and may not have the option of missing work. (4) You need knowledge of the system and what you're supposed to do. Again, that's a barrier if you're an elderly senior citizen with no internet.

So yeah, there are barriers we shouldn't take lightly.
