Overseas?

Is it immoral or does the failure of the developers to provide a legal method to obtain their game in an accessible format absolve you of any possible moral failings?

This the same legal gray-area as abandonware. I don't think morality is really involved at all.

Usually, the average fan translation is made available a generation+ later, when the only way to gain the game at that point is a secondary market like a used game store, rather than direct purchase from the developer.

No, I'm sure Kant or Socrates would be awake all night wondering whether a few neckbeards pirating games constitutes the ultimate immorality.

Something about a cave and candles, or something.

It's basically the only time I would feel comfortable with pirating, especially if it's a long abandoned series. They clearly do not want your money as there is no way for you to give it to them.

If its legally available for direct purchase, purchasing the original version would be the upstanding thing to do even if you never touch it. If something has no legal direct path for purchase, I see no moral issue whatsoever.

Its 100% not.

Im honestly a very big anti-piracy person, but if there is absolutely no way to obtain something from a legitimate first party source, then I see absolutely no harm in obtaining it by other means.

I personally don't see an issue with it if there's legitimately no legal method of purchasing the product.

As mentioned earlier, it's a grey area legally speaking.

Hold on how do they do something like that? I mean I only imported Japanese games, but how do other countries keep people from buying their games?
