Ideally you don't, but if you want to, just be friendly & confident about it. Don't worry about who's listening. Just ask her if she has a boyfriend and if she says no, ask if you can get her number.

If she doesn't like you, she'll give you some sort of preloaded excuse(girls all have these on reserve). If she thinks you're alright, she'll give you her number.

If you don't think you can be friendly & nice regardless of the answers, don't ask.

If you aren't actively conversating(like someone else said), might as well just ask blatantly with a confident smile.

"Hey, I know you're working, but do you wanna go out later?"

I know if I'm having a shit day at work, and I get asked out, it's like 50/50 for me, though. So...even then, might get rejected. Don't be nervous, play it cool, and act confident. Treat it like it's a casual thing, flash a smile(could use a mask to hide your nervousness too!).

Just prepare for rejection anyway.

If your next interaction is similarly pleasant (especially if she remembers you), then give it a try. Depending on her age, I'd ask for social media first. It comes off a little less creepy initially.

Don't hard imply a date either. Dates are commitments and a lot of people don't really want to commit. Just ask if she wants to hang out later, or chill, or whatever your age group says these days(assuming you're mildly younger/my age).

Say it confidently. Wear your mask if you feel like you'll look anxious and practice the 'eye smile'. If she says no, say 'ah, alright then.' or make a casual joke. Don't press the issue and leave. Don't linger.

I've asked out girls who said no and then asked later, it depends on what they think of you. If you're just a chill dude asking her out, and she says no, maybe she'll think on it more and ask again.

Just please GOD don't take the rejection to heart or make it awkward. Casual casual CASUAL.

She can get in trouble at work for giving her number out to you during her shift. Just slip her a piece of paper with your number on it that says you would like to take her out somewhere and for her to text you. Done. Maybe she will text you back, maybe not.

Not a bad idea. You could even say that you would have asked her directly but wanted to make sure it didn't get her in trouble. Shows you are aware of how asking someone at works can put her in a bad spot.
