I know some people, apparently, care more about social justice issues than they do their own mental health, but I personally think this is quite dangerous.
There are plenty of things I'd like to see changed in America, but I stopped following politics because of constant exposure to misery. You follow it to make sure what's going on. Now discussing with on the other hand, that's something people should stop doing as much due to the bile that's in politics. Nowadays you can't talk about anything politically without anyone going: "Democrats this" or "Republicans that"

I follow it but i disengage ever so often and just put up mental forcefield for happenings. Like anything "Democratic senators reach deal on..." I'm already expecting it to fall apart and carrying on with my life.
