Considering that I NEEDED my car to go to college when I was 17, I think it should be 18. We kinda see americans setting it as 21 as prude puritans here. We prefer knowing 18 gets drunk and give them a ride if needed than pretending they do not drink.

I'm okay with having a bit of a gap between 18 and 21 before they can go out drinking and go into casinos and clubs.

Same age you can die for thia country. Either lower the drinking age or raise the age a person can get deployed to a war zone.

Well firstly it should all be the same. If Im old enough to go to war Im old enough to have a beer.

18 or 21 works but they cant be separate. It needs to be one or the other for everything.

Yeah. If 21 I'm still fine with 18 year olds joining just let them train and do menial jobs till 21

18 or 20 sounds good for getting the last ones; but I don't think they should all be given at the same age. Driving being the most obvious one to come to mind as "should be earlier than others".

(EDIT: And shortly after reading this I thought "18 or 20, but not 19?" and realised that there's no real reason 19 doesn't work too, beyond that it just sounds a bit weird to have it there due to it being an odd number that's currently often not legally significant age-wise.)

I'll probably have a lot of people disagree with me, but I think drinking age at 18 is fine, but military age being raised at 21 would be acceptable

I'm all for raising the military age too. Why are we recruiting high schoolers to go to war started by old people?

Because you're far more aware of the screwjob you're in once you start approaching mid/late 20s.

Also you probably have no money at that age and you've been drilled that YOU NEED COLLEGE ITS THE ONE AND ONLY EAY TO SUCCEED so a recruiter tell you that someone will pay for your college fees...

Oh. I live in the 2 provinces who choose 18 as renting age. I did not even know other provinces set it at 20.

My bad. It's probably due to young drivers more likely to be involved in accidents

At whatever age you are considered old enough to be charged as an adult in a court of law. If you are going to charge a 14 year old as an adult, then guess what? If you think 14 is to young to be considered an adult, THEN DONT FUCKING CHARGE THEM AS ONE.

IIRC, raising the drinking age to 21 has considerably reduced the auto fatality rate. It might seem bizarre you can vote and join the army but not drink, but there is a logic behind separating a few of those adult rights.

That seems unlikely. Most countries have the legal drinking age at 18 and it's no more an issue than it is here. If there was an issue here with a lower drinking age, then it's more likely some other underlying cause.

Canada saw the same reduction rate as U.S.A in those years as well as most of the world.

You don't have to be 25. There is no actual law that says this, people just think there is. It is more a company policy thing that many of them do. You can rent a car at 18, you just might have to pay a surcharge based on your age for lack of driving experience.
