Only game I play since I win all the time

i went to a casino once and people at the table were pissed at me because I wanted to hit on a 13 when the dealer had like a 9.

so Ive been scared to play publicly ever since even though I won like $80 that night

That's dumb, you can hit when the dealer is showing a 9. You typically stand when its lower than 6

Don't be afraid to ask the dealer what they would do in a given situation. I'm pretty sure they're actually instructed to give you good advice and usually if you're friendly they're more than happy to help you play the game.

The basics:

Stand when your hand is 12-16 when the dealer has 2-6.
Hit when your hand is 12-16 when the dealer has 7-Ace
Always split Aces and 8s
Double 11 versus the dealer's 2-10
Hit or double Aces-6

And my personal rules:

Try you best to sit in the "last" seat (the one closest to the dealer's right) - you see the most card on the table that way, and get a better idea of what's left in the shoe.

Sit down with a certain number that you're willing to lose, and don't go past that. I personally sit down with the plan to either double my chips, or lose half my chips. Walk away when either of those happen, take a 30-60 minute break, then go sit back down.

Fuck whatever people at the table think or say, it's your money to gamble and they're free to choose another table.

Why do other people at the table get mad at people that make bad blackjack moves? Genuine question as I've never played it but isn't it basically everyone vs. the dealer? Wouldn't each player make no difference?

Basically, because there's more cards valued at 10, there's a better chance the dealer busts if there's more cards left in the "shoe". The more cards in the shoe, the more 10's in the shoe.

In theory.

You always assume the dealer's "down" card is a 10, so if a dealer is showing anything under 7, you have to assume they will need to hit, and (hopefully) pull a 10 or face card and cause himself to bust.

If you take a card when you're "supposed" to stay, there's potential to take that 10 from the dealer.

don't go to vegas expecting to win money.

Set aside what you're willing to lose and if you win, great. Who gives a fuck if people get upset at you for doing what you want, everyone wants someone to blame when they lose money

The dealers in Vegas let people use pocket charts like this, at least at low stake tables.

I won way more off the Royal Match option than the actual blackjack side of it when I went on a winning streak. I kept putting $5 on it and I hit $250 like 3 times. But that was obviously just luck, since none of it is made to go in your favor. If you're gonna gamble, putting a dollar on ot of it's there still makes things more excitingly. I went back, lost $80 immediately and then stopped going while I was still up overall.

Also, theyre increasingly rare in Vegas but seek out tables that pay 3 to 2 on blackjack (as opposed to 6 to 5) because thats the single factor that shifts the odds far more in the dealers favor

I don't think low stake 3:2 tables exist on the strip anymore but they can be found pretty easy off strip still.

Yeah this is basically why, however I was a blackjack dealer for about 2+ years and have dealt thousands and thousands of hands to a bunch of different groups of people and I will say that the tables that always were the most successful were the ones that had one person that was doing stuff slightly different.

That's not to say he was taking hits on a 15 against a dealer six, but maybe staying on a 16 against a 18 or hitting a 13 vs a deal 2 or something.

Ultimately do what you feel is right.

If you're at the end seat and you got a 15 vs a dealer 10 and look out and see that the last 5 people all took cards and literally all of them were a small card, that big card is probably coming next. So do what you want.

Bro I understand odds, and when I play blackjack I play it by the book without hesitation.

However if I'm recommending people playing blackjack, Im recommending them in the best way to have the most fun, because that's what it's about.

If a person would ever ask me what the book says to do, I would tell them exactly what it says to do, but remind them at the end of the day to do what the feel is right, however the odds are in your favor the other way.

People aren't looking to have a textbook time at blackjack they're just looking to enjoy the night, and nothing makes a night more unbearably annoying then someone at the table like "bro, bro what are you doing you dumbass you gotta hit!" the whole night.
