I know that's how it has been packaged this whole time. I know you want to see a bunch of passionate idiots go to jail for a long time over the incident. But as I said, it's based on the actual acts committed and the evidence thereof. If the rioter didn't personally break anything, issue threats, cause harm, etc. then there isn't much meat on the prosecutor's plate.

Remember these trials are going to court rooms, with juries, lawyers, etc. It's going to be tough to hand a 25 year prison term to somebody who walked into the lobby of a government building and yelled "I don't like democrats"

It isn't based on the actual acts committed and evidence thereof, though. They let him off easy with a plea deal.

He was charged with:

• Entering and Remaining in a Restricted Building
• Disorderly and Disruptive Conduct in a Restricted Building
• Violent Entry and Disorderly Conduct in a Capitol Building
• Parading, Demonstrating, or Picketing in a Capitol Building

But for some reason they gave him a plea deal so that he could just plead guilty to "one count of unlawfully protesting inside the Capitol and agreed to pay $500 to repair damages to the complex."

I doubt it would warrant a severe prison sentence. A fine, maybe a couple months in jail, a mark on the record...Word it however you like, but 99% of the rioters didn't actually do anything other than walk into the lobby.

If they committed assault, throw the book at them. If they made threats, throw the book at them. But once again, you can only charge and convict somebody for the actual crimes they committed. If they made no threats and caused no harm, then what exactly do you think they should be charged with?

In those cases there must be plentiful, irrefutable evidence that the intent existed. And in the case of political riots, it's a lot harder to prove that any one individual had any one specific intention unless they outright say it, or there's evidence to prove the charge beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Edit: I should clarify that when I say "the crimes they actually committed," I am including intent, conspiracy, etc. as crimes that are on the table.

Then it seems we disagree about what could have been proven. Cases for intent with riots/mobs have been charged and convicted with similar levels of evidence (verbal statements/ past criminal history/ social media posts)

I'm not intolerant. That's the issue here. My political opinions on these subjects are not expressed with the intention to insult, demean, belittle, dehumanize, or otherwise ostracize anybody. My views are perceived to be far more hurtful and hateful than they really are.

My intent is assumed, my tone is intentionally misinterpreted, and the dog pile of mockery, dismissal, as accusations of trolling are tools used by my detractors as a way to ensure that the warped, inaccurate view of my personality is the one that people remember when they see my posts.
