I dont mind heights as long as I'm convinced whatever I'm on is safe.

I fell off a 2 story ladder once, that made me start checking if things are safe.

Just a fear of falling from them. Really though some of those pics make my spine shiver. I could never trust any of those guard rails.

As a child no, but now somewhat yes. I didnt realize this until I started working in construction, but being 50 feet up and working with heavy materials and power tools is a little scary.

It used to not. But now that if I do something just right my knee wants to give out. I still get on 20ft ladders for work but I'm alot more cautious now. If I'm in a bucket 40ft up,I can focus on the job.

Mainly I just really want safety that I can trust. No more winging shit.

My issue with this stair case design is that there is no Vertical support beam under the outter edge of each step connected to the floor of the previous step immediately below it.

That extra Vertical Support beam would also prevent folks from falling over the railings.

For me it's actually basophobia, which is a fear of falling. I can do roller coasters with no problems because I'm safely strapped in. But standing at the edge of a cliff looking over a guardrail? That scares me.

I feel like there's something wrong with you if you're not afraid of heights.

That being said, I'm not one of those people who's completely incapable of climbing a ladder, or hiking a mountain with exposure, standing on a balcony, etc

Phobias, generally-speaking, are considered to be irrational fears, or fears beyond what a normal person would experience in a similar situation.

A fear of heights is natural and most people and animals have it. Put a dog up on an elevated steel beam and they will likely freak out too. The phobia kicks in when the intensity of the fear is stronger in a comparatively more contained situation, like a person on a ladder freaking out as if they were in the same position as the girl in the first picture.

Most people who fear something likely don't have a phobia, they just have a natural fear of something that can potential endanger our well-being.

I'm just the opposite. Being on a roller-coaster freaks me out. Something about being on a moving vehicle on a rickety swaying steel/wooden frame; not being in control. It scares me.

On the other hand, I'm an avid mountain climber. Never done anything too extreme yet, but I can walk along a high cliff edge without hesitation, and even a somewhat exposed scramble wouldn't really give me pause.
