In the original film, the alien shields are strong enough to withstand a nuclear weapon. Even the smaller manned ships had their own shield that deflected all firepower including missiles.
Yet in Resurgence, the Harvester Queen, the most important being, has a shield that can be breached just by shooting at it a lot. GTFOH ... Copied to Clipboard!

In the original film, President Whitmore telepathically sees what the aliens are doing: they move from planet to planet, their whole civilization, consumingevery natural resource.

The musical score pales in comparison to the first film. The Harvester ship is orders of magnitude larger than the Mother Ship from the original, yet because of the effectiveness of the original musical score and how the ships are presented, the Mother Ship and City Destroyers in the first film feel bigger and have a greater sense of awe than the Harvester.

They mentioned that for the last 20 years there's been a guerrilla war fought against Harvester holdout ground forces in Africa
