On the whole, it's a fun little action movie. Don't expect an award-winning screenplay, but it is a decent action flick with some trademark Marvel laughs.

But one thing stopped the film cold for me: Black Widow murdered a child. Oh, I'm sorry. I meant to say she disfigured a child whom she attempted to murder. (Totally different.) Even when she thought she was guilty of murder, there was no great sense of regret.

Being an antihero is one thing. Being an unrepentant child-murderer is another. The movie had an entire subplot about mind control, so it would've been the easiest thing in the world to say that she was still being manipulated by a different source (SHIELD, Hydra, etc.). But, no. Of her own free will, Black Widow blew up a building using the bad guy's little girl as the insurance policy that daddy would be in the building.

The whole second half of the movie, I couldn't stop thinking of Black Widow as the Marvel cinematic equivalent of Casey Anthony. I seriously hope a sequel retcons that and says that she wasn't in control of her actions. I'm sorry, movie. Child murder is unforgivable.

Is that the John Hurt character?

I didn't stick around for any after-the-credits sequence.

Wasnt that a big part of her redemption arc in the Avengers?

She mentioned on a couple of occasions that she wasnt proud of some of the things shed done and wanted to make up for it somehow.

They've alluded to the fact that she's committed murder. I'm not too keen on that either. But to knowingly blowing up a building with a child is on an entirely different level from, say, committing a political assassination.

I'm sorry. I don't have it in me to play the "it's okay when the good guys do it" game. And "It's just a movie" isn't an excuse for any movie which takes itself seriously.

Speaking of politics, was the opening implying that Bill Clinton was under mind control? It seemed super random to have his face pictured when everyone else had their identity covered.

Oh, I didn't catch that Taskmaster was the name of the Robot Skeletor-looking character. Yeah. Cool design on that character.

They....literally said it multiple times.

Even before you learn she killed a child.

After the scene in Morocco, there was the whole activate the Taskmaster protocol and then it went straight to Taskmaster.

That sounds like the name of an ordinance - not a character. I was more focused on the cute Black chick whom they sadly killed off after one scene than I was the name of the person in the chair wearing a skull helmet.

Did it force men to squirm like we was promised?

I'd forgotten all about that promise.

Dudes are pretty useless in this film. After they break the Crimson Dynamo out of prison, he proceeds to do absolutely nothing. It's a little disappointing, but understandable considering that it's not his movie.

He's still the best character with Natasha's younger sister being the second best. If she's replacing Black Widow going forward, the MCU has definitely traded up.

Personally it makes sense to me. They made her a killing machine. It's why she considered herself a monster in that avengers 2 scene with the hulk. Which people for some stupid reason thought she meant she was a monster cause she couldn't have a baby.

She wanted to get out, killing Dreykov was her final step to defecting to SHIELD, i'm sure if she messed it up she would have been stuck doing more bad things, probably actually mind controlled. So one could argue that doing that prevented a lot more deaths.

I mean it was still pretty Deplorable.

Also young Natasha was played by Milla Jovovich's daughter, that's pretty cool.

It doesn't justify it.

Young Natasha was crazy good casting. Her eyes, nose, and chin were just how one might imagine Scarlet Johansson to look at that age. I'd have believed it if you'd told me she was ScarJo's daughter or niece.
