I've noticed that every single screenshot people have shared with the beta is in classic mode. No one even wants to entertain the idea of using modern. Further supporting my point that modern simply shouldn't exist. If you try to push it through as the default again, we're going to have a repeat of last time with the feedback system being flooded with complaints.

My awful ISP had better forums than this, 15 years ago.( closed now)

Media sharing forums like the shrine and such had better design than this imo since the mid 00s.

Fan sites like GTPlanet has better design, and superior embedding and functionality since forever.

Special interest forums like SevenForums and Tom's Hardware look better.

Literally any forum out there, that isn't Reddit style , looks beter than this, IMO.

I've noticed when you get a notification for a new message in a thread it puts you at the first message instead of the newest.
And nobody has me blocked so I know it's not that. All messages are there

The last one wouldnt be there and you wouldnt be able to tell unless you or someone else posted something. Then youd see the post number skip.

You can compare the last post you can see to the total in the topic list.

Dude. There have been multiple accounts of this happening. It's a confirmed problem with the beta. Why do people keep trying to make up excuses?

As someone who keeps having to deal with someone who blocked me, YES. If they make the 20th post, the board will tell me that there are 20 posts in the topic.
Also, as someone who tried the Beta back when it was forced: The issue with clicking on a notification NOT taking you to the notification is very much a thing.

Seconded. I'm not the type of get blocked very often, so that's an unlikely explanation considering how prevalent it's been since I opted into the beta...and when I log out, there are no messages that I didn't see when I was logged in, so it's definitely not the cause. It's the beta.

Looks like the Beta is gone. Also, yeah, who the fuck would want to use that modern mode? It looks awful.
Some feedback: the editing menu was quite squished and readability of a few buttons and labels on the purple on black color scheme is still poor

Nah, that line was always there - it refers to it going live, not the beta.

Can we add an option for whether blocking people blocks quoted messages? I want to block people but I don't like missing out on people just because they quote them.

i'm sorry so many people have been trolling you about this. i don't like the new look either, but the response has been pretty ugly.

i'm not sure i have any suggestions on what can be salvaged, but my best general suggestion moving forward would be to stop doing giant redesigns altogether. they almost never go well. smaller, more frequent changes are much less jarring, and it's easier for everyone to adapt.

also, give people as much control over their personal experience as you can manage. making sweeping backend changes will go nearly unnoticed if we can all customize the site to our own wants and needs. there really is no reason a message board needs to look the same for everyone. (nearly) every change you make should just be another option for us to use as we see fit.

There seems to be two obvious goals with the forum redo.

1. Eliminate <table> tags
2. Squeeze in more ads

Modern (-ish) CSS can eliminate the need for tables unless you need colspan for some reason, but you have to have some idea of what you're doing.

@SBAllen I have an idea.

why dont you guys send out some sort of poll or open a suggestions topics to gather data on what the audience actually wants to see?

you can take the aggregate results of said suggestions and post the findings of said study here, then the redesign work will part from those findings.

its better to design based on what people want to see than to design and then see if people like it.

That's already a thing, you can change it in your settings to show quotes of people you ignore/block.
