I did have dreams before, but they were pretty unremarkable. Like I was on a bus, or food shopping or back in school. Now I've got people with guns after me, artificial intelligence mumbo jumbo, being in some big theater for some weird ass show and murder mystery bullshit.

I can't think of anything I'm really doing differently. I'm probably staying up on average an hour later, but I've always kept crazy hours.

Did your lifestyle change at all? Usually dreams are psychological related.

Its not possible to go years without having dreams, you may have been on medication that made it harder for you to remember them residually, but they still happened.

I started prozac again after being out of my prescription for a few weeks and now every night my dreams are vivid and crazy

Last night I was in some school of people with superpowers and this one guy could make black holes in his hand and he stuck it out the window on a windy night and I could see the distortion of matter

Our instructor was the Head Doctor from Jojolion for some reason

I did have dreams like I said in the OP, they were just very light, mundane and I never really remembered them. Not on any meds either.

it's OK not to remember dreams. sometimes, remembering them can indicate some sort of sleep disorder that is preventing you from completing a sleep cycle.
do you feel as well rested as you used to? do you perceive that you are waking up more often throughout the night as you have these dreams, possibly with an elevated heart rate or the need to pee?

Nah that's all the same. I never wake up feeling too well rested, but that's just on me not getting enough hours. Never wake up during the night. At most I'll wake up an hour earlier than usual or I need to and go back to sleep. That might be more frequent now, but it's probably only happened 3 or 4 times in the past 6 months. No elevated heart rate or needing to pee.

sounds like you're doing better than a lot of people... keep it up and I hope you can bring up your sleep total eventually.

I was thinking that sleep apnea might be at play here--I had it for a long time despite being super skinny, and wish my frequent wakeups with elevated heart rate, sweating and dry mouth had led me to getting tested sooner. world of difference now. since dealing with it, my dreams have seemed more complex, longer, and filled with people and weird concepts, and this probably relates to getting more REM sleep.

although you didn't go into detail about them, the topics of the dreams you're remembering lately seem more likely to correspond to REM sleep. you mention keeping crazy hours--if this involves getting too little sleep on some nights, maybe you're having REM rebound on other nights, leading to longer REM cycles and weirder dreams. sleep apnea still could be something to consider, as REM sleep is where the muscles of the throat (and everywhere) are most relaxed and likely to cause you to wake up just enough to inhale, but not enough to remember, and you're more likely to consolidate memories from dreams if you're roused from them.
