As a general rule, "there's no such thing as X extremists" is usually a sign the person saying it is an X extremist themself. "X extremists aren't as bad as Y extremists" is usually a sign the person saying it is an X moderate (when used as a defence of X's extremists rather than in an actual context of comparing the two).

I think the lack of separation between "people with malformed but fixable beliefs" and "people who are psychopaths" when using the "far-x" terminology is part of the problem when discussing these things.

It's pretty simple. If you hurt people or cause them pain and suffering for a cause or ideology, then that is extreme and bad. You don't want to go that direction.

The far right has basically become the Republican party and are trying to impose their will on the American people. You can argue all you want over what's more dangerous but the difference is one group wields a ton of power and the other does not.
