L catches on very early that Light is a student. But did Light allow this to happen on purpose?
It's been a while since I watched but it could have been part of his major objective which was to prove he was superior to L, and ultimately lead to him making the police and L suspect eachother and so Light could position himself closer to L. But when I first watched, maybe I missed something or was just dumb, but it seemed like Light just underestimated L and didn't want any of that to happen.

He did it on purpose. He did the kills during after school hours, then when they caught on He killed someone every hour on the hour 24 hours a day for a while.

Do you think in the final episode after Near outs him as Kira, he made the deal with Ryuk to get the shinigami eyes? His eyes were glowing more red than ever before and it was a life or death situation
