So.....instead of sending people into the future to get wrecked en masse, wouldn't it make way more sense to bring the future people, tech, and scientists to the past to have a 30 year head start in developing better weapons and training an army?

They actually tried doing that but all the scientists got dealt with by the monsters first.

One thing I missed is why they're sending people over 40 into the future to fight these things. Pratt's group wasn't even trained on how to use a gun before they were jumped.

I might need to watch this again.

They explained it. It was mainly to prevent any fucking up the timeline by meeting their future selves. It was also one of the requirements for being able to jump, that they knew when you would die and that you die before that future timeline.

also explained why the people time travelling back looked young, so that they wouldnt run into their younger selves because they weren't born yet

You don't lol. I immediately wondered the same thing and was all um, aren't you fucking yourselves by having less people to fight in the future when the aliens arrive but the explanation actually works because they only take people who would've died before the invasion anyway

Still a really, really stupid movie and predictable af

Yea but weren't there literally only 500,000 human beings left on earth? That means every single person in every army on earth should have qualified before the civilians. The writers were out of there minds or a dozen different people wrote different rules without checking with each other.

I'm over an hour in, yeah it's not great. Movie drags, and it's trying too hard to make me care about characters they haven't developed enough.

They were banking on Chris Pratt in a tight shirt carrying the movie and forcing people to not ask questions.

I knew it was going to be shit within the first minute when Pratt falls several hundred feet and his fall is broken by literally 5 feet of water in a pool

No, they only took people who died before the war started. They were down to 500k people because they had been obliterated by the aliens, and anybody who had been killed by the aliens was not eligible to be drafted in the past.

Don't get me wrong, the movie wasn't great and there were tons of issues. That wasn't one of them, though.

A very hand-wavy and flawed way to say they miraculously avoided creating a paradox that would have torn the universe asunder.

And then they just went split-timeline in the end anyways, which actually works well with their time travel system (setting up two "rafts" in the timestream to jump back and forth between).

Watch '41'. Greatest time travel movie ever made, it was smart, beautiful, had zero holes, accepts string theory, and I fucking wept at the end. Wept. SPOILERS:

Dude cannot fix or change his own timeline, so he goes back like 60 years and lives an entire life so that he could fix someone else's.

And the second watch is even better and more heartbreaking, knowing what is going to happen and seeing all the little details in the background.

Can anyone explain why the group in the beginning was just dropped hundreds of feet above the ground? I'm not sure if it was explained and I just missed it.

When they were being time traveled one of the tech people said something about them being off course. They were supposed to have a soft landing on Miami Beach. I don't think it was ever explained why that randomly happened this time though. Probably just didn't want hundreds of red shirts around for the first part.

I knew it was gonna be bad literally one minute in when Pratt fell hundreds of feet and broke his fall by landing in like 5 feet of water in a swimming pool
