Im in chapter 12, got to the Omi HQ, and promptly got my ass (lvl 34) stomped by Majima (lvl 50). How did I get so underleveled all of a sudden? Wtf

Huge help! But yes. That fight almost caught me off guard.

Yeah that spot is a stupidly placed difficulty spike/progression blocker. Nothing to really do but go grind levels.

go to the sewers and look for invested vagabonds to fight. use gangster move rapid fire on them to kill them. they will boost you up real quick.

You unfortunately just have to grind. I really wish the sub stories gave good EXP as a reward so you could do some interesting side content instead of just spinning the wheel on killing Vagabonds.

Also heads up if you don't mind minor spoilers, I recommend checking out a guide before the final boss because it is an absolute slog and if you go in blind you can waste a lot of time getting to phase two and then randomly get ichiban hit with a one shot that can't be defended against without preparation.

Yeah I thought I was doing fine since Ive completed almost every substory to that point, and then bam, I get knocked on my ass. And man wtf, why did RGG think that was a good idea for the final boss

Agreed. The story has been fantastic as per usual Yakuza standards, but this has been ridiculous

it's pretty wild. makes sense thematically but sucks ass gameplay-wise. just hit up the battle arena and level up some jobs too to make sure you have good healing spells

a tip for the fight itself if you want it (I beat it at around level 40-42):
focus majima down then go to saejima. also saejima is weak to cold
