Why are people automatically disregarding the former Chief's claim that it was a poorly thought out joke? I know I've said/done "worse" things to black friends of mine (and white, asian, jewish, etc.), but only because I know we're good enough friends that I wouldn't get my ass kicked for it or genuinely hurt their feelings. I don't know, where I'm from it seems pretty common to talk shit and make jokes about people you were close to, maybe even more so than people you actually hated.

Obviously in this climate and in that particular profession it was idiotic for him to do that, and I don't even disagree with him being fired, but for poor judgment skills, not for being a racist. Unless more stuff like this can be pulled up going back years I think it's inappropriate to just label the guy a hateful bigot or whatever.

We've had kkk fliers put on our car before in big parking store parking lots, so this guy probably just found one somewhere like that
