If you can bring something new to the table, get involved with already-big communities, and are a natural entertainer without any signs of awkwardness, then maybe.

You can use my catchphrase. I realized everytime something doesn't go my way I go "So, this is what we're doing?" in a slightly irritated rhetorical tone. People seem to snicker at it. I feel like it's a decent hook to make people feel familiar with you. You need that catchphrase that's not trying too hard.

That's exactly it. It's so easy to adapt and use on stuff. Which is good for fans as well.

I doubt it, it's probably like trying to break out in Hollywood. Thousands want to do it, but only a select few will really rise to an ultra-successful standing while the other 98% piddle around relatively unknown.

Will probably piss some people off, but doesn't make it any less true.

Becoming a successful streamer.

As a guy: Be charismatic, funny, a natural entertainer. Be good at games. Grind for a long long time for minimal gains.

As a girl: Be attractive. Have big tits. Wear a low cut top and "tee hee" a lot. Drown under endless simp donations.

You need to either be a gameplay streamer or a personality streamer. Basically if you're like top 500 of a popular game or you have some weird gimmick that makes you very interesting then yeah you can make it as a streamer.

I could give a lot of advice about streaming as I've been streaming nearly daily for the last 9 months.
But keep in mind that twitch takes half of all the money. A sub is $5, but twitch takes half so you get $2.50.
Even if you have 500 monthly subs that's only $1,250 per month. Streaming is a hobby first and a job second.

If anyone wants actual advice, feel free to @me or join the gamefaqs streamer discord that I set up.

There's a "just chatting" category.
My wife streams knitting and crocheting under the "crafts" category.
Oh and I've done 10 hour long streams of building Lego.

I don't think you need to be particularly good at games, mostly just need to be extra entertaining if you are average/bad to make up for it. It's definitely not easy though, as thousands of already established people so why would they go from their beloved one to you? What do you bring entertainment wise?

The vast majority will never make it, so plan accordingly and if it things do go well you can change plans as needed.

Or could stream a plethora of other things, literally almost anything really.

Are you good at talking to yourself/thinking out loud? You need to keep an ongoing commentary even if the room's empty. Potential subscribers will enter your stream and see your energy and feed off of that.

No, but you'll need a capture card to stream with your console and you'll still need a good computer to run everything.

My best base advice:
For streaming, there are two reasons people will watch your stream:

1. For the content
2. For the creator

At first a new viewer will come in interested by the game that you're streaming. If you're personal at a difficult game like a shooter or moba OR playing something fun to watch like Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy then they're there for the content.

As you build a community you'll have regulars that will watch you play anything because they're there for you, the creator. One of the few streamers I watch is Small Ant because he's fun to watch so I'll watch him play anything.

As a new streamer you're always going to be in the first category. I have almost 500 followers and I'm barely getting 15-20 regular viewers who are in the second category.

I hope my rambling makes sense!

I doubt it. I had a friend that streamed oldschool runescape 3x to 5x a week from 2014 to 2019. He never got more than 150 viewers. Generally averaged like 20 viewers or less. It was only the final 3 months of streaming that he broke through the low 100 viewers (wanna say sround 120 at most) occasionally but only because he started staking his audience's gold at the duel arena. He got banned from twitch not too long after but unrelated to the gambling his audience's gold thing. Just accumulated the three strikes over the years (one strike for accidently showing his dick, and two strikes for falling asleep offscreen twice).

I stream 6 days a week and I could never do YouTube personally.
It's a very different vibe. You have to really research your content, edit your videos, make sure your SEO is good, and after all that hope you'll get some comments that you'll never really interact with. It all feels like homework to me.
One of my favorite things about Twitch streaming is that instant feedback from viewers. Even technical issues can be fun if you and your chat roll with it.

As far as I'm aware twitch does absolutely nothing to help promote new streams. You're stream will be listed at the very bottom of the page and will be almost assuredly seen by absolutely no one. You can't really self promote because that's generally prohibited at most sites and if it isn't it's pretty much an open invitation to getting trolled.

Unless you've got a group of people already willing to be an audience for you or you know an already established streamer will give you a shoutout you won't be able to get any sort of traction and you'll be streaming to literally no one.

Beyond that there was a study done some time ago that found that people form a para-social relationship with content creators which is to say they watch people that they want to be friends with. Are you good at making friends and do people generally like you? If not you'll absolutely won't make it as a streamer unless you can provide some other reason to watch you.
