He was a true scholar and well respected by all the founding fathers as one of the smartest guys in the room. He was also key in keeping peace with france in his presidency when we were on the brink of war that would've probably devastated us. He pretty much ignored his family throughout this whole process and one of his sons ended up becoming an alcoholic and died young. He probably would be much better recognized today if he had more tact in speaking and leading. He was not a good "leader" in the sense of getting people to believe and follow what he said. So it was pretty easy for his political enemies to take him down resulting in only a single term presidency. Biggest takeaway is that this guy basically sacrificed his whole life and family to work his ass off to get to the top for reasons of vanity and prestige.
