After being denied last March lol

Now they are worried I wont come back and want to do me right according to my former manager. I say former because she quit a few weeks back. Along with that majority of the team. Since I left in March, 6 people on my team quit (we were 10 when I left). So I guess theyre sweating now. I have good relationship with some of the engineering execs who have expressed concern for me and have been pushing things as well.

I got a 15k bump in base pay, will get more bonus and am at an associate manager level where I would have a small team to manage when I return from mat leave. It sucks because I wanted to get into management for a while. I have another offer for a lot more money though Id have to start over in career progression. Im leaning towards taking it since its a shit show at this place. But I hate how I will start from scratch and keep second guessing things. Halp

Would you lose a significant amount of PTO switching?

IMO it's an important consideration if you currently have say, 4 weeks a year now and would drop down to 2 at a new job.

Does the new position allow you to WFH and/or does it require way longer hours?

Work life balance has become a major thing for me recently as I look for new jobs. I work in tech so most people agree with 40-45 hours per week max.

I thought you left?
Or maybe I'm confused.

This is the job that fucked you over right and then you left to go on leave for the baby and your replacement was still unprepared since she wasn't experienced enough?

But then there was also I think you left A job and your old manager asked you to come back? Is that the same job as this or is this the job you had when your old manager offered you your old one back

If you don't like the job for more reasons than your ex boss then take the new job.

If your frustrations are primarily around how they delayed the promotion until after your returned from maturity. Give it a year, at worst you'll have the year of experience at the management level.

My limited understanding of you is you're doing all right financially, and while more money is nice, I've left plenty of money to stay at a place I'm comfortable at. Maybe the new place is better and better pay, or maybe it's even shittier and that's why they need to pay more.

Of course if I'm wrong and the extra money takes you from uncomfortable to comfortable income. Follow the money.

Nope Id get about the same time off, if not a bit more.

Both are WFH but my current role would allow me to go into the office when I want. The other office is in another state of which kind of sucks. I like getting out of the house from time to time. From people I know at the other company, work life balance is better too. Honestly its better in every way, I would just have to reset my career progression that Ive worked hard for.

Im on mat leave and still employed with them, but looking to jump ship but they dont know that. I did leave them before because of the shit they pulled with promos, then they convinced me to come back and that they would work with me on a plan. Then we merged with another company and they scrapped everything. Now the higher ups saw everyone left and they see they fucked things up with me. I know Id be a complete idiot to go back lol

Congrats! Sounds like you cant go wrong with either option, so thats a good thing.

If you take the other position and give notice to your current company, do you think they will sweeten the pot any more? You just have to go with your gut on all this, and if you feel like moving might be the way to go then I would say do that and get out of the shitshow. But if you think you can squeeze more money out of the shitshow by showing them that you are ready to take that other hard offer, it might be worthwhile and lucrative to stay and see if they are willing to play hardball.

That's a tricky situation. But getting out of a shit show is a good thing.

As you know everything is very fluid right now....so the ball is in your court.
You are a smart woman, think it out.

I hope everything is going well with the little one.
~RIP sleep though.

Maybe stick with the shit show, as you already have a lot going on.
I tend to try to take things one thing at a time.

Will the current job work around the fact you have a newborn? If so stay there for six months or so then fuck off to a better place since you'll have leadership experience in that career field.

Yeah Im conflicted for sure. Ive always loved my job and the company before the merger. But after things have changed and even though I have great relationships with a lot of people there, our jobs have become more difficult to do and upper management have been ignoring things. Like people are mass quitting and these folks are patting themselves on the backs in meetings and talking about how great everything is going. I just have to decide if I put up with it for another year or two for the management experience, or take a 20-30k pay increase and postpone management experience for a little while longer.

Thanks! Im not in the best position to negotiate while on maternity leave. I believe Im still protected if I have another offer but I worry I might jeopardize my leave if I have that conversation. I dont trust management. So I have to decide to accept this new offer now or not. My plan is to give my current employer notice 2 weeks before Im to return

They would. Theyve been great during my pregnancy too so I dont regret having stayed with them despite everything. But I have a friend at the new company who is heavily pregnant and said theyve been fantastic with her.

Ah, got it. Yeah, that makes sense.

Its a hard decision for sure. Ive been at my place for a bit over 6 years, and in the past 2 years Ive turned down 2 offers to move elsewhere. One of those was hard since a friend had referred me. I dont regret the decisions Ive made to stay, but I love my boss and wouldnt say its a shitshow.

It might seem silly, but Ive found it helps me to write out (or type out) a pros and cons list for staying or leaving your current job. See it all actually laid out, and then go with that and your gut.

In general, Im all about moving around and trying out new opportunities as I think that ultimately will elevate your career faster, get you more money (since companies pay new hires better than current employees, like, all the time), and give you more experience. Its just that in my case, the offers to leave were never stellar enough to get me to leave.

As long as you arent burning any bridges, Im sure you can amicably leave your current place. If things werent to work out at the new place, you never know. The door could be open to maybe come back to your old place? Its all just business after all, nothing personal.

A lot more money? Take the new job. Starting from scratch means you have more room for upwards mobility. More promotions, more raises, right?

Yeah I should make a list. I do flip flop a lot. One thing that makes me want to leave was they put this promo last Friday and its been in effect since Monday. But they didnt bother to call me and say anything. I just saw an email about it. I just got something from the system that it went through.

Yeah its $15k more in base than what my promotion got me to lol. As well as bonuses. I could potentially be making 30-50k more. I just wonder if I got management experience for a couple of years and then left, Id have higher earning potential but you do have a point that if I got promoted there Id also get a raise.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

Very true. I hate the new management but I still have great relationships with the folks there like the engineers I work with. But had they given me this promotion and raise 3 months ago I would have never looked elsewhere. Theyre just worried now that Im all they have left.

Lol another person quit on my team a few days ago and my friend put in her notice yesterday. That leaves me as the most senior member of the team. One of the execs I work with (but not part of my org) messaged me saying he really hopes I plan to come back. I dont know how to respond.

Since Ive been on maternity leave, 7 people out of our 10 person team have quit. In 3 months. And many who had been there several years like myself. And thats just our team, the other teams are bleeding too.

Probably. But I doubt they could match the other offer. And I cant even bring it up since Im on maternity leave. They tried to promote my friend and offer more money when she gave her notice yesterday. But its not because they value us, they just cant stop the bleeding and our client base is freaking out. They have aggressive hiring goals and no one to fill them.
