How old?

For the purposes of this topic, a BB Gun or airsoft does not count.

I forget exactly when I shot my first real gun.

I shot real guns in the Boy Scouts and I was gifted a small .22 rifle when I was 11.

Not a particular fan of them. *shrugs*

Not counting pellet guns, I was mid 20s the first time I shot a gun.

I've never owned one but I've got a few friends who do.

I can't remember exactly. I was either 24 or 25 when I went to a shooting range for the first time and fired a handgun.

Same, first gun (.22) was in scouts at rifle shooting MB. Surprisingly I really enjoyed the idea of perfecting form that our instructor highlighted rather than just trying to improve accuracy.

A few years later in my early 20s shot shotgun at the same camp - the whole leading the skeet was fun in a cool Zen like way.

17 or 18? My aunt worked at a firing range. It was just one shot, though. Haven't fired one after that, I don't think.

Its more primarily a Southern thing from what I know.

In some places you'll have (or used to) high school students drive to school with rifles in their window because they literally left hunting in the woods to go to class

I was 23 when I first shot a gun. I shot a .45 pistol (dont remember what kind) and a 9mm Sig Sauer. It was terrifying.

I took a firearms safety course a couple years later and became much more comfortable handling different kinds of firearms.

Don't think I've ever really fired a gun. I remember being like four or five and pulling the trigger of a shotgun while target shooting, but someone else was actually holding it steady. So I wouldn't really count that.

This. I've handled several guns over the years (some handgun, an antique revolver that still works, an antique revolver that doesn't), but never fired one.

if an adult in the house is going to own guns, its much better to teach your kids gun safety and let them start shooting (while supervised obviously) early. A kid who has only seen guns on tv and in video games will get curious. A kid who has grown up around them from an early age will learn to respect the seriousness of them and wont have that same curiosity because theyve already experienced it.
