I was playing the recent Pokemon MastersEX event where I saw some ugly 3D models, so I figured I'd ask CE. I tried to find some of the more (un)popular choices, but don't really keep up on modern Pokemon discourse. There's so many pokemon models that make me immediately think, "Man, this game never should've been brought to 3D."

Personally, I think it's between Typhlosion, Hippowdon, and the Nidos. Typhlosion (and his whole line) not only lost their dynamic poses, but also fire manes. Hippowdon is a pokemon that just looks dumb without a nice pose. And almost all the Nidos went from "cool pokemon with GREAT pose" to "wtf even is this shit?"

Not sure I see the issue with half of these off the top of my head, are the 3D models different in that app or something? I'm picturing their current SwSh models for "3D" so we might be thinking different things

Typhlosion definitely suffers mainly because its fuckin fire ring isn't always up by default, it just bursts when it attacks. I'd like to see it always on like a medium amount, then flare up larger during attacks.

Salamance definitely looks derpy as hell the way it just kinda hovers, especially its mega lmfao

I dont really see any staggering issues with the rest of the options, but I havent played SwSh in months so I really dont remember

Pretty much any pokemon in the Stadium games is going to be more animated than Gen 6 trash. Yeah, I know it's because of just how many pokemon they had to model, but it's still pretty shitty. The difference between modern Snorlax and Stadium Snorlax is depressing.

Most of these issues arose from Gen 5->Gen 6, but continue on today.

His SwSh model is just a higher res version of Gen 6. His actions and entry look fine in SwSh, but he really just stands there in Gen 6. In earlier games, almost all of Nidoking's poses are dynamic, showing off this cool weird rabbit monster. In modern games, he looks like a fat derpy thing that could fly with his ears.

And that's the problem with most of these. They went from cool dynamic sprites to bland neutral models. They made less work for themselves by creating reusable models, but then didn't put in the extra work to make interesting animations until much later.

All of them are trash. 3D killed Pokemon as an artistically worthwhile franchise.
