The story and writing are pure trash. The gameplay is flashy but ultimately shallow as hell. There are segments where you go first person to scan and they are atrocious every single time. Controls are simple, the wiimote is held sideways.

It isn't that the game is like so bad as to be unplayable.

Its just, everything about it makes you go "This could be done better" and "I'd be having way more fun if Adam didn't have his hand up my ass dictating everything I do"

Its about as close to character assassination that you can get that isn't straight up a murder.

Its literally Kings Field, with a tutorial

The writing is bad, which is what the game was mostly prided and sold on. Super Metroid and Metroid 2 have an elegant stories with emotional endings. Metroid Fusion has an intriguing and exciting story with a threat that feels real and mature. Other M's writing just feels like bad sci-fi anime.

The gameplay is not terrible but it's merely adequate. Not even close to the calibre of other Metroid games.

Visually it also looks disappointing.

Yes absolutely. Especially cause if you play Fusion and then Other M, you will actively hate it even more. Just skip it, watch the dumpster fire on YouTube, and enjoy Fusion / Zero Mission.

In the story they wait they do the "No powerups at the start" thing is to write it away as "You're a walking nuke aboard this manned space station please tone it down" yet they actually make it a gameplay section where Samus has to run through a volcano world and she only turns her "Don't be cooked to death" setting on her suit because her commander tells her to.

Hard to follow up on Zero Mission. Which I know came out later but it's earlier in the order so you know what I mean. I been playing them in order other than skipping Super because I just can't play that

what I mean is Metroid Other M sort of does a lot of the stuff Fusion got right, and instead did it really horribly and bad

Playing through right now, just beat the first Nightmare fight. I'm finally warming up to the combat, but I will never not despise how railroaded the game is; doors arbitrarily lock and unlock to keep you on a specific path and keep you from backtracking for items, which is just completely antithetical to what the series is about.

The less said about the story, the better. A complete trainwreck that actively tries to ruin Samus, Adam, and even Ridley.

I kind of liked Other M. Gameplay is fun except for first person mode. The story is dull and unnecessary, but I didn't rage against it. It's definitely the weakest of the main Metroid games, but still worth checking out.

Other M is interesting becuase its honestly perhaps one of the few games released by nintendo they sorta, kinda admitted they fucked up.

Other M is decent people here are overhypeing how bad it is. The story is atrocious and it butcher Samus's character but I doubt Nintendo is considering it canon. Everything else is enjoyable.

Think I'll just move on to Fusion

It's not great either. Nearly everything OM did wrong, Fusion did wrong first (though not as bad). But Fusion gets a pass on being arbitrarily linear, having too much told through dialogue, Adam, and having a terrible story because reasons.

Metroid Prime has a lot of great things.

I wish more games did stuff with the HUD like it does. Thats the best part of this game, no? Like, it being Metroid is almost icing on the cake (the Morph Ball is crucial tho tbh) ~ and the freedom of the movement, justifying the ridiculous infinite blaster, the enemy types, etc. This might be damn near close to the perfect game.

But yea, the HUD

Theres all these little meters, the Scan mode (ding ding ding) is awesome, the visor gets foggy, you can see Samuss face in the reflection, little raindrops land on it, the water cascades off when you return to the surface from swimming, it glitches out sometimes, you have X Ray & Thermal Vision. Wow.

You know who would make a great Metroid Prime?

The Half-Life team. Stick the Valve engine on this puppy. Return to the simplicity of MP1

The lore logs are so funny. The demon clad in metal. The hatchling lol. This tree is 200 years old & in good health. Theres a birthing orifice on this creatures tail. Lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The combo of lock-on, free-aim, and fixed aim is GODLY

Platforming is godly

Like..... bruh.... if you havent played Metroid Prime, i cant recommend it enough.

If you feel you need to see it, that's fine.

Some things you can only truly grasp after experiencing them yourself.

I will say, I also agree with this. Fusion is good, but it definitely leans more into things I do not like in my Metroid games. Very linear, forced story. However, everything else is really good. It feels really great to play

I am having a ****ing blast with Metroid Prime

Holy wow. Its like Im seeing the game for the first time but I already know where everything is.

Traveling by morph ball makes it so much better. And I seem to care about the flora & fauna again

I've mostly played prime via Wii u so it had motion controls. Gets annoying. I did also play it on GameCube but didn't get far

Yo Wii Controls are the best way to play Prime unless you're speed running.

Also I'd talk another way to play the game with even better controls but that's a TOS violation

Yeah I'm playing Prime again on my Wii U and the motion controls are the only way to play it. Way better than the GCN controls (which I thought were fine for the game style)
