Because only 4% of the country is vaccinated due to the federal governments mishandling of the rollout of vaccines and they are almost all Delta cases.

Say what you will about their handling of the vaccine, they've been doing much better than most countries when it comes to the spread of Covid.

Oh I agree, life has basically been normal since June last year (apart from Victoria who had a large outbreak), but I'm damn nervous atm.

The reason we've done well is that it has largely been left up to state governments to control COVID, and confidence in state governments and chief health officers has been very high throughout. Our federal government has done fuck all

Also the vaccine that we have a decent supply of is Astrazeneca which has been linked to blood clots. And the changing information has scared people away from it.

Feb: AZ for 40+ year olds only
March: AZ for 50+ year olds only
June: AZ for 60+ year olds only
This week: AZ for anybody, as the federal government will indemnify any doctor who gives it to somebody who develops blood clots.

Like... who the fuck would actually go and get AZ under 60?

Lets look back at Scotty from November last year

https://theconversation.com/scott-morrison-to-announce-two-new-covid-vaccine-deals-149458
By securing multiple COVID-19 vaccines we are giving Australians the best shot at early access to a vaccine, should trials prove successful.
"We arent putting all our eggs in one basket and we will continue to pursue further vaccines should our medical experts recommend them.
"There are no guarantees that these vaccines will prove successful, however our strategy puts Australia at the front of the queue, if our medical experts give the vaccines the green light.

December
https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2020/dec/28/australians-will-be-fully-vaccinated-against-covid-by-october-greg-hunt-says
We expect that Australians will be fully vaccinated by the end of October, on the basis that its free, universal and entirely voluntary, Hunt said.
We want to urge as many Australians to be vaccinated as possible, and weve seen some very heartening reports over the weekend of an expected uptake of up to 80%. In order to do that, they have to have the confidence that our regulators are making sure that every safety step is taken, and were ticking all of those boxes just a little bit earlier than expected.

Fucking clowns
