Did you read it? I never said they werent good or denied their talent, just that they are generally overrated by the people who grew up with it.

Elvis, the Beatles, Michael Jackson. All great artists. The best their time respective times in fact but they arent untouchable music gods above everybody else.

I myself am guilty of it. I love Jimi Hendrix, but I can acknowledge that people younger than me who dont think he was as great as I do arent necessarily wrong. Music is extremely subjective.

I hope you can understand

He is a songwriter first. That's where he's at.
He's a good songwriter, it's true. He writes some good lyrics, he obviously has talent in that regard. It's just that I feel that he shouldn't perform his own songs, especially with that voice.
Write the lyrics, write the music, and then give the song to someone who can elevate it to a another level.

I think it has something to do with my previous point. He can write a damn good song, but after it's written he should never touch it again but instead give it to someone else.

I think people miss the point that he is a Folk singer...he was not setting out to be a pop singer.

Also, I think people just bought into the 'he can't sing' meme...which I suppose we could call it, and just ran with it.

I just hate overused one-liners.

I would try to post something....and this what pisses me off about him....he's real bad about allowing his songs on the internet. He's certainly made his money, he should let us share them more.

Well that shows what I know, I had no idea he was jewish lol

But on the voice thing, lotta people don't like it, lotta people do.
I kinda have the same with death metal. Some people that like metal refuse to listen to death metal because of the vocals. I get why, it's not for everyone. Personally though, I love it. It suits the music and I think it sounds awesome. I've been trying to get some metal-loving friends of mine to listen to some bands, but they can't do it because of the vocals, even though they quite like the music.

That's the thing for me with Dylan, some of his songs I've heard over the years I like musically. I just can't handle the vocals.

That's odd...

First my older brother killed whatever chance I had to get into death metal. I was burnt out on that long before.

But as for Bob, one of his selling points was that he sounded like an old man on his first album.
For the record, no pun intended...I was brought up in that folk music scene.

This song is kinda funny you've gotta admit.

IMO, he's one of the greatest song writers of all time. I think his voice sounds great on most of his songs, so I don't know what the big deal about that is. I think he's a bigger singer than Johnny Cash, for example. He's been relevant the whole time as well, still putting out good songs

There have been really outstanding covers of songs honestly.. Joan Baez absolutely makes them sound beautiful.

But I don't think it's quite the same feel as Dylan doing them.. like it's the same with Dave Mustaine from Megadeth. It's technically not a good voice but it fits the tunes. I think if you took the melodies and had someone else sing them they're fantastic, but giving someone those words knowing they don't have that perspective like Dylan does who HAS traveled that sort of journey.. it's weird. I can believe it alot more from him than I could from Baez, but Joan Baez really sings so well and is of Dylan's group that it does force another path of art you can look at the same song from.

Music is subjective of course. I guess people didn't really like Robert Plants voice when he came out too lol.
