I know that when people talk about this currently they're being tongue in cheek, but people act as if in the future this can be done by a non-professional. But, like how? These are objects that are made up of a variety of different materials. You can't just insert a sheet of plastic (or whatever substance they use for 3d printing) and get something with a fully functional engine or a firing mechanism. That requires metal, among other things, Would you have to design a huge sheet with all the materials in a predetermined place? That's not going to be the kind of thing you can just buy off the street.

You can in fact make a plastic gun that can fire real bullets.

Yeah it will deform and may even explode when fired, but after looking into it it seems like some versions of plastic guns have survived up to 10 firings.

The only metal required is the firing pin and the bullet and the gun doesn't really resemble a gun when is disassembled into its discreet parts so it can be assembled beyond security checkpoints. It's pretty scary stuff tbh. I'm not entirely comfortable with their existence.

Wouldn't the bullets give it away >_>
