Do Americans really say whatever when they mean whatsoever?

This might be a made up thing or a misunderstanding, or maybe just a regional thing, but I swear Ive seen this before.

For example: Bob didnt care about any of that whatever.

When that makes no sense and should read: Bob didnt care about any of that whatsoever.

or another example He didnt see it coming - he had no idea whatever that it would happen.

Am I the dumb one here? Probably. Please explain.

I've never heard anyone use "whatever" in that context once in my entire life.

The problem with a lot of this is that the United States (and I specify United States because people use "America" to refer to this specific country for some reason not acknowledging that North and South America are actually continents and that NA includes Canada and Mexico) is a large and diverse country, where sometimes even within a single state, a portion of the state can have a totally different culture than another part of the state (for example: eastern, central and western Pennsylvania are like 3 different planets).

So for all I know people in the midwest might actually use it like that and most of us would have no idea that this is a "thing."

I have definitely seen it in print form at least a few times. Not saying it was correct, or that its widespread. Thats part of the point of this topic.

If it's used and people know what it means, it's correct.

Do Americans really refer to honky-drivey-mobiles as "cars"?
Do Americans really refer to portable two-way radios as "walkie-talkies"?
