We all know these people. They need constant attention (they use it as a drug), they can't stand any form of critisism (it's now called "hate") and they have no idea about the difference between subjectivity and objectivity.

I have noticed that parents these days work. And when they get home from work, there's often more work to do. Which leads to them spending less and less time with their children. This in turn means they feel guilty, and use money to get affection from the children (instead of using time). This also means a lot of parents today try to be friends with their children, rather than acting like parents (becoming unpopular because they set limits).

Today, you can see lots of underage girls doing questionable stuff on social media, including YouTube. Their parents don't care. "Do whatever you want". People turn psychologically ill when they don't get enough attention and praise, which is an alarming sign of mental weakness.

Everyone leaves home super spoiled when it comes to money, and they seem to have been raised by society and activists in school rather than by their parents.

Millenials and gen z are infamous. Do you think parents are to blame, or society? Or something else?

You won't learn anything new by being ignorant. If you just keep talking to people who share your opinions, you won't develop. Talking to different minded people makes you smarter, because you get more perspectives and see things in new ways.

But in order to do that, you need a will to challenge yourself and put yourself through uncomfortable situations. And millenials and gen z tend to always avoid that and stay in their bubbles.

TC, it seems that CE has already decided you don't have enough karma to have an opinion that matters, which is extremely bizarre considering you hardly said anything that should be upsetting them, but you bring up a lot of good points.

OK, so this place is run by ants and the hive mind, rather than strong and intelligent individuals who form their own opinion about matters?

That's a good point, but what about parents refusing young children to use social media? How many parents do that? No many. They simply give up and let their kids do whatever they want, because that makes them popular and it's the easy way out.

You say that like previous generations weren't fuck ups in their own way.

It's not a "kids these days" issue, humanity in general has always been incredibly flawed and racing to the bottom.

It's not that simple. Mental illness is going up. Young people feeling psychologically ill are going up. The two last gens are more unhappy than ever. And I think part of the explanation is that they're not getting any limits set by their parents. Total freedom makes children confused.

I wouldn't call it bad. But it ia an affect of a parents inherenr desire for their childrens lives to be better than what they had.

There are some of us who can look back on the bad and see how it shaped us positively. But I doubt its many people.

I didn't begin my journey of shaping up to be a decent independent adult until I expierenced truly living a poor mans life. I ate once a day. Only had tap water to drink. No phone no internet not even basic cable.

I hear a lot of gen z refusing taking simple, low pay jobs. They want to start from the top, because their parents never tought them manners and that you have to fight to survive.

Gen z at least has one advantage over millenials. They where born into this world where technology rules the world and to get ahead you need a firm grasp on it. It came about in millenials life time but we never knew it was gonna get so big in the job market.

People arent taking those jobs because there is both not a livable wage to be made from them and also not a clear path of advancement that will lead people to making one through feasible effort

Millenials and Gen Z are bumper generations between the slow and prolonged death of old unskilled labor that used to sustain a lot of peoples livelihood, and the uncertain future where something is going to have to take the place of those professions to keep people fed and housed. Their parents arent going to be much use because a lot of the things that were feasible when they were kids are not anymore w

These things have always been around, previous generations just used different coping mechanisms. Ironically, a lot of those were *also* tethered to developing technology of the different eras, like radio and television, and sure enough those things were also blamed for all the ills of youth back then.

Nothing has fundamentally changed about the "old people complaining about young people" dynamic aside from the size of the "idiot box" going from a large living room fixture to a handheld device you carry in your pocket.

The numbers are going up. You can blame that of not being ignored or covered, but there's no proof of that.
