I love fighting machines, exploring the world, the slick controls.
But the story and characters suck. Don't know how people always praise the story. I find the dialogue and acting super basic, bland, predictable and downright lame.
Also the collectibles are bad. They're worse than Ubisoft collectibles. They have this awesome and massive creative world and the flowers and vessels are always sitting in plain sight. There's no creativity where they had these.
Fighting humans is no where near as good as fighting machines.
And my last complaint is the inventory feels like a clusterfuck at times. I hate having to cycle through 10 different random shit to get to a bomb and it's annoying having to Constantly stop the game to switch weapons out.

I hope they fix all these issues in the sequel

I agree on the story and characters. Game is fun but the story itself just didn't grab me and as much as I wanted to like Aloy she seems really devoid of personality. I never finished the game but maybe i wouldve had a different opinion if i stuck with it.

I will say the DLC's story is much better than the main game's.

And the main story does have one interesting character.

And yeah I loved the world building and figuring out what had happened and where each location was. The story was kind of whatever. Fun enough but nothing crazy or super memorable.

The story's take on the whole post-apocalyptic setting was an interesting twist. The main story was a little "normal" considering. I was expecting something else entirely.

The main story was fine. I really liked the back story about Ted Faro.

It's probably not anything major to the overall plotline, it was just a nice self-contained story.

I tried the game due to the hype and wasnt impressed. The world was nicely done but not anything over the top. And the story, characters and just general narrative bored me to tears.

I just couldnt stay invested enough to finish it. Game takes absolutely no risk at all and felt soulless.

Horizon Zero Dawn is fantastic. I hate how it got overshadowed by BotW when it came out as both games were really good but people like me bought Zelda instead.

This topic makes me feel like I'm sane.
The narrative, story, dialogue are all utter shit and die-hard fans are trying to tell me how's it's a masterfully written and thought provoking it is.
Aloy is a terrible, boring mary sue of a protagonist and it annoys me how useless everyone is in this world. Everyone usually gets themselves killed and it's me to the player to do a shitloads of boring side quests and fetch missions.

The setting and visuals are definitely interesting and well done. But the concept of robots taking over the world is definitely not that unique.

And the exposition dumps are just bad. They put 6 different voice tapes in a room and make you sit and listen to them to get the backstory. I ended up skipping half of them because I just didn't care.

It's an intriguing contrast in modern gaming when you think about it. You go in to some post apocalyptic games, and the most the describe the end of the world is a few lines of pre-recorded dialogue during a 30 second opening cinematic. But with Zero Dawn, you get to uncover what actually happens, and experience it through the lives of others. I thought it made for a very refreshing change. Of course the irony is people bitch about both methods equally.
