So I stopped in a town to use a motel since I'm leaving my bike at a shop overnight to get looked at. I showed up early so I can unload the bike before taking it to the shop and in the few minutes I was in the room I noticed mold in both the bathroom and mini fridge. On my way out I tell the guy at the front counter (discreetly) and ask if he can have someone go over the room while I'm gone for a few hours to which he says yes and apologizes.

About 3 and a half hours later I get back with some ice cream and other foods and my room hasn't been touched. If I still had my bike I might just ask for a refund and try to find another place but that isn't really an option, same as pissing him off and getting kicked out. Not sure how to proceed except to eat that ice cream as is.

I also just realized he never gave me the wifi password, assumed there wasn't one since he never brought it up. I mean I have unlimited 4g so it doesn't really matter but I'm definitely going to have to do something here.

Well you could call or go the front desk and ask for the wifi password and just ask if they can do anything about the fridge. Shouldnt be confrontational but even if it is they are in the wrong. You cant be charging people for rooms that have mold growing in them.

Also weird little fact that's unrelated to the mold thing, I've stayed at about 10 motels between these two trips in the states of Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and now one in North Dakota and yet despite how white leaning the demographics of the areas I've been staying in are, every single one of those motels had an Indian (by my estimation) guy checking people in and out.

What are the chances of that happening? It's like rolling 10 D8s and them all coming up as a single number or something statistically.

I do think I got a tick at one in Wisconsin since I checked myself pretty thoroughly before bed but one was on my back in the morning. The only thing is I don't know if I brought it inside with me on some of my gear since I've been camping too so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

No, it's a Travelodge, I'm new to the motel biz but I can definitely say it's not a high class or super low class place. The room was almost exactly $100 after tax and other charges.

I rolled up to this motel like place my dad had booked for us on our way home from Florida a couple years ago (3 or 4). Went to go to the room and before we could even get in, we could just see hundreds of flies swarming the place in the window (inside the room).
All surrounding rooms were like this too so we went back, checked out and I had to drop about $200 on a hotel room down the road because that was some horror movie stuff I saw and I would have been murdered if I stayed there, I'm 95% sure.
