  • Apparently the shortage will last well into 2022.
  • This means that even by 2023 the PS5 won't be fully adopted in the same way the PS1/PS2/PS3/PS4 were adopted within their first year in the market.
  • The average console lifespan is 5 years.
  • The PS5 was released in 2020

This tells me most PS5 games will be offered in PS4 in some form up until 2023, Devs would not limit their game games to a system that hasn't been widely received. It's like refusing to sell SNES games because the VB is out.

That leaves us with 2 years, of PS5-only good games, by 2025 we'll be almost in the PS6 age.

Will people just skip on the PS5 and its microsoft equivalent too?

I wouldn't be surprised to see a longer console generation like the 360 and PlayStation 3

I would think they saw these shortages coming. Is Xbox having the same problems?

I'll do the exact same thing this gen that I've done every other gen, which is purchase the console when there are enough games I'm interested in to warrant the purchase. In the meantime, I'll keep working through my backlog.

Sony is dedicating all their resources to PS5 production, as in they are discontinuing production on PS4s. So while the shortage will still be a thing, people who skipped PS4 will be left with the moral dilemma of paying $600 for it or just getting a PS5 for the same price.

I can get one with an extra controller for $570 right now. But Im in a huge gaming lull. I know I won't be able to get one at anywhere near that price anytime soon, but I think Im ok with that. I also can't resell it since that's a slap in the face to the person giving me the deal.
