I was shocked that the band wasn't British. Mr. Brightside is practically their anthem.

If she says we partied, then I'm pretty sure we partied. I really don't remember. I remember we departed from our bodies.

Unfortunately yes. They didn't get the response they wanted to Sam's Town and started making bullshit. I find things off all their records to like and dig into still, but they were on absolute fire the first two records. Day and Age is also great but the holes in the armor were showing.

Their biggest influences are 80's synth groups and a lot came out of Britain. Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, Joy Division etc.

wouldn't they be doing songs about magic underwear and avoiding "mud races" then? Some of their videos even had slightly sexual themes...

Now that I think about it why don't British singers sing with their accent?

because they're singing. Singing is all about a specific tone/rhythm to the song, which overrides an accent most of the time, unless the singer goes out of his way to sound british (like Bastille do) or redneck (like country singers do) or something like that.

Some do. It's off putting tbh sometimes. John Lennon didn't overtly suppress his like others aka Jagger, McCartney didn't really either; part of that is because the vowel sounds are easier to sing a 'cleaner' way, and it's proper technique for singing. They aren't really singing like 'Americans' quote unquote either, it's just a better way to get the sounds out. Like how you sing Whiskey as 'Whiskay' because the E sound makes you close your mouth more and it inhibits sound production. I sing professionally, and this is a technical description; it's also of course a cultural thing where they were emulating American music during the Brit invasion and it's stuck because America is the biggest entertainment market by a longshot.

So I entered the killers' mr brightside in youtube and youtube developed a playlist for me that's oddly specific to me and my tastes, it's cross-genre but every single song is one of my fave songs.

How can the algorithm be so specific? Like, imagine having the killers, nirvana and the cranberries all in a same playlist, and it's especially weird since these songs are from before my time too (I just like old music)

Wouldn't have some of the Killers stuff without Nirvana in the mix ;)

It's also because these are bands with very strong songwriters. You probably just like good songwriting :)
