It kind of skewed my whole worldview when I realised that not everyone did. Maybe it doesn't even matter, idk. It just feels nice to hear.

My mom did. My cousin's family had a notable lack of affection, and he came out slightly, but notably, stunted because of that.

It was kinda just something you say before hanging up the phone and probably something I told my dad every night when he would tuck me in.

I didn't, my immediate family is pretty distant. If I have a family of my own some day, I'm going to be the first person to say "I love you".

I want the people I love to know that they're loved, instead of emotions feeling off-limits or uncomfortable to express.

Not really, but my kids sure as fuck do. The wife and I tell our kids we love them multiple times a day to the point that sometimes we'll call them over and they just respond with, "yea I love you too!"

We always said it. My mom died when I was 17 and after that we always made sure the other person always knew we loved them in every interaction, because you never know when the last one will be. Don't even remember my last conversation with my mother, but it was 2 weeks before her death. 2 weeks too long.

I only hugged people when they feel sad. It feels awkward cause I'm thinking "stop crying ffs you pathetic person" but apparently I'm like a sad sponge and it makes people feel better like I absorbed their bad thoughts. I do not like being hugged even if I'm upset however because I hate the way people smell up close.

if it makes you feel better, my dad was way better about it than my mom. he might have even meant it, so long as i pretended to be the person he expected me to be. but definitely not the unconditional expectation.

This is good. The rest of this topic has too many sadnesses. I had no idea it was this prevalent. Some terrifying shit in here, most people are basically admitting to broken homes.

I remember the last time it was a regular thing, he was dropping me off at school and I was like "Ah yes I think this is done" after I made the swoop lol. I think as an autonomous male there is a cutoff point. I'd still do it like after a major funeral or something, but it is no longer the regular response haha
