Star Trek Online.
There is no other game I have invested my time into more, but I would never recommend it to anyone under any circumstance.

I would say this about Star Wars: TOR

Why you citing movies to show their popularity. When my claim was the movies is what made him popular.

Separate argument. Metalsonic is rather stupidly claiming that the Avengers of all teams weren't well known. If your comic fan step-father heard Metal say that, he'd laugh him out of the building all the way onto the street where he'd then laugh him into another building until he'd laugh him onto the street again because that's a fucking stupid opinion and he should be ashamed to expressed it.

I'll take the word of my step dad who is a huge comic nerd that owns like 2000+ comics and probably about 100 toys stills in the original packaging. Hes a marvel fanboy and hes the one who told me iron man was at best a b grade hero before the movies in terms of popularity.

See, that's seriously walking back a statement. Your exact words were "Nobody gave a fuck about iron man before the movies." The fact that he had a solo cartoon, among other things, proves that's completely wrong. (And that's overlooking all of his game appearances.) Calling him a b-grade hero is less controversial, especially since even now he's outshone by other names.

And, not for nothing, but 2,000+ comics isn't anywhere as big as you think. Comic books tend to accumulate pretty quickly.

Yeah, the Avengers are more well known now. That's the whole point.

But they were B-listers at best before the movies

You're arguing about popularity NOW, but you were also trying to argue that the Avengers were less well known for most of their existence which is just an unbelievably moronic stance that I had to re-read your claim multiple times just so I could be sure that you were claiming what I thought you were claiming. The X-Men were, up until their revamp, a c-list team that sold so poorly that they got canceled for 5 years. Meanwhile the Avengers have always been one of Marvel's top teams and certainly one of their best-known teams. And most of Marvel's major heroes have had an Avengers run at some point, INCLUDING Wolverine and Spider-Man. The Avengers is Marvel's Justice League analog.

Even back in the 90s until the X-Men movies came out, it was easier to find adult non-comic fans who knew the Avengers than adult non-comic fans who knew the X-men. The Avengers had been a known property since the 1960s.

The number varies wildly between collectors, I believe. I was checking an old forum, and the numbers range from 100 to over 10,000 for some. I think the higher number are from people collecting their whole lives with enough money, though

I could be wrong, but Im not sure if its guilty pleasures. Or if all of them are. Like I think things you like, but know that others wont because of whatever reasons also works here But I could be wrong

That said, I also believe guilty pleasure can also go in this topic

I dont. For example, I dont usually recommend all porn I like. Or the gay dating sim I play. I also dont recommend certain games to certain people. I recommend things I like to people who I think would like them. And sometimes, thats nobody

Yes, how long somebody has been collecting is certainly a factor. Even not counting back-issues and ignoring specials/annuals/cross-overs, if somebody is following 3 titles a year (which is on the lower side), that's 36 comics each year.

Honestly, although a fan can have any number of comics, I'm not sure I'd consider somebody a collector if they didn't have at least a thousand issues. A collection can build very, very quickly.

As for cost, it kinda depends. Newsstand pricing adds up quickly, but you can pick up back-issues on clearance (which is what I did back when I was more into comics) or otherwise pretty cheaply. When you compare it to other hobbies and recreational activities, even newsstand isn't as expensive as some people might imagine. That said, just going with TPBs or even a digital subscription is probably more practical for a lot of fans (and I'm kinda kicking myself for not redeeming any number of free month offers I had for Marvel Unlimited over the years, which generally expired because I waited too long).

Idk if Id put any stipulations on it personally. Some people dont have the money for that. Especially kids. And some people are collectors of a very specific thing. Like maybe a specific character of something. And everybody has to start somewhere. If someone wants to be a collector, and starts collecting consistently, I dont think Id say youre not a collector until you have at least this many But thats me

Comics are a very different beast. You can own a lot of comics and not necessarily be a collector, just like you can own a lot of books and not necessarily be seen as a book collector. There are certain things are intrinsically just collectibles where the threshold between owning some of the stuff and it being a collection is a lot smaller. Likewise, there feels like there's a bit of jump between just having a collection and being a collector, since being a collector is a hobby onto itself. And again, rather than somebody being a collector, they can just be a fan. There's no threshold for a fan. Either way, it's kinda going into a side discussion now >_>
